Triax TD88, x3 Inverto Black Ultras, x2 Dreambox 800HD Pro, Triax Multi-Block LNB Arm, Lots of WF100 cable, Triax 110, Superior Darkmotor, DarkGold 0.1lnb, Dreambox 7025+, Horizon USB Plus Satellite Meter

Hi,

I''ll be setting up a multi-lnb system soon and i'm trying to figure out positions of the LNBs. I'm hoping to receive 19.2, 13e and 0.8w using a Triax TD88 and Inverto Black Ultras. I understand that facing the dish, west is to the left so I've made a little diagram to demonstrate how I think the lnb positions should go.

Is this correct?

Actually, thinking about it. The unused LNB should be the one beside Thor and Hotbird and Astra should be the right side LNBs?
 
You have forgotten simple optics .................

Due to reflection off the dish face, your LNB positions need to be reversed

ie The Thor LNB should be the furthest right and Astra 1 furthest left.
 
Yes, the opposite is true. Facing the dish, satellites received to the left are the most eastern ones. So the 19E LNB will be on the left.
 
Looking through the dish from behind, your picture would be correct. Don't forget the Elevation differences between the LNb's.
 
I see, thanks for correcting me. So facing the dish, the new diagram should be correct?

hello,
the incline is too steep.the lnb names are now correct.
but the chances that you will be able to set this up and all 3 lnb's are spot on is not likely.
you need a field strength meter with spectrum to set all 3 up correctly.
if you have a friend with that no problem.
sorry its not easy for someone just starting out

Hi Ralph,

I have a Horizon HDSM USB+ sat meter. It has a spectrum analyser but I'm not sure how to use it. I've set up a motorised dish before, that's what confused me, because when the dish turn to the western sats, it turned left (when facing the dish).

Is using the spectrum analyser a complicated task?

A spectrum analyser is not necessary. I have set up about 20 of them without one. You just need something that tells you how good a signal you have on each sat, and be able to check the weakest transponder.
 
A receiver would do but you'd have to perform a scan on a few transponders to see where you are.
 
Here's mine, the only difference being that mine has a bracket that allows a focused LNB rather than having to aim between sat's like with the Triax TD series bracket. What you see from Right to Left as you look at the photo is 7E,13E,19E & 28E.

Yes but you can mod the bracket to allow focal alignment.

Very true with a right angled cut next to where the tilt screw is, allowing you to push one of the LNB holders into the created space and thus be a focal LNB.
 
Is it advisable to make this modification? Is a focal LNB better for alignment, or does it give better reception?
 
Not really, unless a weak satellite. The usual mod is for 16e with 13e/19e.

Only if necesary, for 19E, 13E and 0.8W, it isn't.
