i am upgrading to sky+hd from normal sky

apologies for my ignorance but i am a very niave sat user.

I am upgrading my package to sky+ HD and was wondering if i can use my current recevier in another room as a multi channel option, i.e watch different channel from main new HD reciever at the same time. not bothered about the sky+ element working. is this possible and do i need more than just and additonal viewing card? and a wired link to the new box?

Yes you can. If you want the pay channels on the second receiver you need a multiroom subscription (extra tenner a month) and have BOTH receivers connected to the SAME phone line.
 
Yes, run a new length of wf100 cable or equivalent from a spare port on the LNB to the new room/receiver.
