Dreambox 800 - Nabilosat Image and 250gig Hard-drive (pointing at 28.2E)
Dreambox 7020 with 120 gig hard-drive disk - running a motorised dish
DM600 +DM500
although only usually the 800 and 7020 are both on.

I'm a DM7020 user (for about 3 years now) and am thinking about getting an 8000. I also have a motorised set-up.

My questions is about the multiple tuners, My 7020 has only 1 tuner so I can't watch itv4 and also record bbc1 as they have to be on the same transponder I think.

so if I was to get 3 or 4 tuners could I watch one channel while recording something totally different?. (same sat)
How about on a different sat? (or would I have to get a 2'nd lnb installed?).

What about overheating, I know my 7020 gets quite hot. My 8000 would most likely have 3 tuners a dvd-recorder and also a HD. Is everyone OK with heat dissipation or is a laptop cooler needed?.

I've also seen the tuners are called differing things?,
dvb s = satellite?
dvb-t = tv?
dvb-c = cable?
any more I'm not even sure if I'm correct on the above ones?.

and lastly for anyone else who has upgraded, what has been the biggest gain?, besides HD is there really any difference? 8000 to 7020. It's a lot to pay for just HD.

IF you want to record 1 and watch another then you need at least a dual LNB. If you want to record 1 satellite and watch another then you need 2 LNB's or 2 dishes ofcourse. The capability of the DM8000 will easily take care of this.

All dreamboxes run a little on the hot side, some more so than others. My DM8000 has 4 tuners in it, a HDD and a DVD-rw drive, and its still not as hot as my DM7025. I haven't added any fans and it runs just fine.

As for available tuners, DVB-Terrestrial, DVB-Cable and DVB-Satellite, are the available choices as you say, nothing yet available in HD, but you have 2 HD tuners built in to the DM8000 to start with. You can add any of the 3 mentioned tuners if you like. ( I have S & C).

The difference between the 7020 and the 8000 is huge. Connectivity is better, picture quality is 10 times better, the functionality of Enigma2 coupled with the speed of the 8000 is a different world. HD & DVD obviously. With the latest Nabilosat blackhole images (currently v0.11) the DM8000 is by far the best Dreambox ever by a country mile, and most likely the market leader in the entire satellite scene.:-worship
