Multisatellite - what I have what do I need please

My Satellite Setup
Freesat with Humax HDR, Freeview with a couple of PVRs and the TV
My Location
Worcester
Currently got a Humax HDR, a Fortec Star 65cm dish with quad LNB pointing at Astra 2.

For F1 reasons I want to include Hotbird and Astra 1, can I reuse any of my dish side kit or am I better off with a bigger dish?

Possibly your current dish would be ok, but not easy to be sure without a better idea of your location ...............

You could fit a DiSEqC motor to the dish and that definitely would work, or you could fit a generic Multi-LNB bracket - but depending upon your location, a better bet might be an 80cm dish.

I have RTL and TF1 (Suisse) ready to go on my own Foxsat and set the position using an 80cm motorised dish.

Not sure what F1 is on Hotbird - If you are after Rai Uno, it encrypts for the Races.

TF1 (Suisse) is on the new 9E position and if you want to go for that, I really would forget Multi-LNB and go for the motorised option.
 
80cm dish would be better for multi lnb, and to be honest it may also be better for a motorised setup as to be honest Fortec Star dishes aren't exactly the best :D

If you want multi lnb you could look at something like the Visosat Bisat dish or a multilnb arm for your standard 80cm dish.

TF1 is still free to air in Analogue but i don't know how much longer that will be for. I'm sure Analoguesat will be able to help out with that. A cheap analogue receiver can be found on ebay.

Thanks everyone

Due to the need to possibly use two sats at once I will be going multi LNB.

Will be running Freesat mode most of the time.

I know F1 is on RTL.

Any idea what the £5 Ebay Diseqc switches are like?

Will go 2 for now and add LNBs as and when.

As the dignal is not great on 65cm think I'll go to near a metre.

Finally what is a good value meter for setting these up?

One meter might be overkill - you've plenty of scope if you use a nominal 80cm.

1m is more unwieldy, greater visual impact and the narrower beamwidth requires even more precision to set up.

Maybe compromise and go for a TD88 or a Penta?
 
thanks for the advice just need to choose diseqc switches any ideas please?

All 5W analogues close at the end of November - 4weeks & counting :(
 
Don't buy the cheapo Golden Interstar ones, they are s**te, they don't work. Go for a 4 way DISEqC switch as you can always add to it later.

I always try and get Global Invacom ones.

I've used Technomate, Sat Conn, Fracarro, EMP-CENTAURI, Vialuna and Echostar DISEqC switches with no issues :D

I'm using a cheap £3.95 LNB off of ebay and have had no problems with it so far and it even came with 4 free F connectors.

The thing i have found with cheap DISEqC switches is they have a tendency to play up. The first cheap one i bought worked fine with the cheepo lnbs i'd purchased of ebay. When i started getting more seriously into the hobby i started spending more money on better kit.

I purchased 3 Mti Blueline lnbs, which at the time were classed as one of the better lnbs to have. These lnbs caused me all sorts of problems, so i canned them and went back to the cheaper ones and Analoguesat got 3 lnbs for the price of a pint of Banks's beer :D

It later turned out there was nothing wrong with the lnbs and as far as i am aware Analoguesat is still using them today on the 8 way EMP DISEqC switch i sold him.

It was the cheap and nasty 4 way DISEqC switch purchased of ebay for the price of a Mars bar that was causing all the issue as it just wouldn't work with the more expensive lnbs. Once it had switched to a port with an MTI lnb on it, it locked that port and wouldn't release it until the box had been rebooted.

If you want it to work spend a bit more money and do it right the first time, as it will save you a load of hassle later on :D

I'm using mine with MK 4 Mini Dish MTI LNBs, I don't know the make or modle of the DiseqC Switch, I've just looked at the picture on ebay and it says HQ SAT-SWITCH10W. I've searched the details and it's made by a company called Konig Electronics.
