MultiSwitch - terrestrial antenna question

When you use a diseqc switch where one of the inputs is a terrestrial antenna what happens at the termination of the single down lead inside the property?
 
I don't think that will work.

A diseq switch is used to change between alternative LNBs or dishes. It simply won't do anything to a terrestrial aerial input as you have to use a satellite receiver to issue the Diseq commands and that won't recognise anything on terrestrial frequencies.
 
I think more information is needed on precicely what is being connected and how, as the question is too vague to answer.:)

There are switches, for example EMP Centauri, that have an extra input for a terrestrial antenna. Obviously the terrestrial signal is permanently available on the down lead irrespective of diseqc selection. I just want to know how the termination of the down lead is wired.
 
An example model number?

With a multiswitch, the input terrestrial signal is separated at the downlead with a diplexer.

Have you got an example of a diplexer?

Also, are the terms diseqc 1.1 and non-committed synonymous? And diseqc 1.0 and committed?
 
Ok, had a look at that, like it. Ideal for someone with a T90, plenty of inputs.

Yes, that would be a diplexer that is needed for the terrrestrial separation.

Diseqc 1.0 are always committed, I think Diseqc 1.1 can be either.

Ok. I know what a diplexer is because I used them in amateur radio but what does a domestic one look like? Is it just built in to a socket front?
 
An example of triplexed outlet plates, these are screened and come with a couple of different connection methods from different suppliers.

How much of an insertion loss are we looking at here? I mean, if the tv or sat signal were weak would you avoid this method?
 
Typical insertion loss around 0.5dB on UHF and 1.5dB on IF.
Also there will be an insertion loss on the DISEqC switch.
