My Satellite Setup
CURRENT SETUP:
Vu+ Solo 4k.
Vu+ Uno 4k.
TBS 5927 USB scanner
1m Dish (2-way monoblock) + 45cm Multytenne (4-way monoblock) + 75cm Technisat Square dish (motorised).
My Location

Got my dreaded MULTYTENNE quad LNB mounted. Picks up a great signal on Astra 1. I can't seem to nail the disecq config (receiver is a VU+ enigma2 based).

The satellite has a quad LNB with 19.2 / 13.0 / 23.5 / 28.2.

If I select Disecq A/B/C/D simple... I can pickup both 19.2 and 28.2 just fine. However 13.0E and 23.5 are missing entirely.

If I select Advanced, configure 4 LNB's and select Disecq 1.0 or 1.1 with Toneburst, I only get Astra 1...

I'm not sure I understand fully what I should be configuring, the instructions given are:

A/B - 1 - Astra 19.2
B/A - 2 - Eutelsat 13.0 (hotbird)
A/B - 3 - Astra 23.5
B/B - 4 - Astra 28.2

I've never had a disecq switch with more than 2 ports. So struggling with A/B style notation here. In short.... A/A and B/B work, but B/A and A/B don't work.

Which VU+ receiver model do you have, and how many tuners?
What image do you have loaded, on your receiver?
Have you set your tuners, in the menu?
Can you please post some pictures, of your menu, and settings, or at least post which image, and version, you have loaded.

Have you tried just setting it up to basic, single LNB, and set the tuner to Hotbird 13E, to see if you can scan in some channels?
 
VU+ Zero UHD 4K with 1x DVB-S2X tuner.

Previously was using Disecq A/B just fine with 2 dishes.

Now I have a 4 lnb monoblock dish with a built in DisecQ which is connected directly to the single tuner of the box.
Suggested config is in my first post,

Here is the basic config I tried (I tried swapping port B/C also). 1.jpg

If I go into Advanced, there is no option for commited/uncommited or literal letters A/A A/B etc... all thats working is A/A and B/B by default. The default LNB option if I set to single is Astra1.

What are the numbers, in brackets? Port C (32), Port D (6)?

Is your LNB a DVB-S2X, or just a DVB-S2?

Have you set any virtual tuners?
 
From memory with the last Multitytenne I installed, the DiSEqC commands will be logical 1 to 4 on a four sat monobloc, E to W or W to E.
For example.
Hotbird 13E AA
Astra 19.2 AB
Astra 23.5 BA
Astra 28,2 BB
Or Vice Versa.


So if you cover the second one in on one side and the signal disappears, you'll know which end is which and which identifier to allocate to each satellite. Or if you set them logically from one side and it's wrong, try the other way.:)

@rolfw I saw an old post where you'd installed one of these MULTYTENNE dishes and another chap said the ordering was odd. i.e. not the traditional E/W or W/E. in principal I have the disecq config right I guess? (according to the initial jpg I posted from the dish installation manual.)

@Mickha The number in brackets is just a logical satellite numbering from enigma2 image. Virtual tuners I have not created no.
 
You also have the option of Automatic, to let the receiver try to find which satellite you're on, according to the image, you posted.

You could try setting all 4 ports, to one satellite, e.g. Hotbird 13E, then see if you get a signal. If so disable one at a time, until you have the correct configuration.

That order is correct.
Edit: However, A/B - 1 should be A/A - 1.

I'll give that a go shortly. just doing a scan, as when I set all the satellites to automatic it somehow detected the hotbird/astra3 ones in position 2 and 3, but no signal found on the transponder given in signal finder... so doing a scan in case the image I'm using is buggy, then will try editing the command.

So interestingly, after deleting all the settings, letting it "auto detect" satellites in the disecq menu. It found them all, but still no signal on Hotbird and Astra3.

I then did a re-scan... channels and signal found everywhere... (so I thought). Noticed that on hotbird, there were hardly any. So I picked a channel that did work, noted down its transponder info, (signal around 40%), then went up on the roof, wiggled the dish a bit and managed to get to to 70% on that channel. Now re-scanning and hoping for the best. But in short, if you're reading this post and have one of these dishes...

- Your Disecq config is fine.
- Astra 1/2 have great signal because you're in the UK and the dish works well for them
- Hotbird is gonna be a challenge, but you can dial it in.
- Astra 3... well, you get a signal, if you care. but not a great one.
 
Astra 3, 23.5E, is a very strong satellite, in the UK.
You might want to play with your dish/LNB a bit more.

Can you please post some pictures, of your dish/LNB, and which satellite is your dish pointing at, or is it just pointing at around 21E?

If you wanted just those 4 satellites, you could have gone for an 80cm dish and 4 bullet style LNB's.

Then I could calculate the needed multifeedskew at your location, and then I will look up the internal multifeedskew of the Multytenne. So that you can try to skew the whole dish (if needed), to get best reception on all 4 of the satellites.

That'd be awesome. approx 51.2623° N, 0.4673° W.

I'm not able to get a decent signal to hotbird and astra3 no matter what I try... even micro adjustments, I know on a normal dish I've solved this by adding some skew... something that isn't possible with these multytenne dishes out the box (I could bodge something I guess) and I bet they're designed with fixed skew for holland/germany.
 
Well, that looks like very approximate LAT and LON! :rolleyes::):rolleyes:

Multifeed skew would be -15.0 degrees for your location (looking in the direction of 19.2E, central satellite).

Minus the pre-skew of the mounted LNBs of -6.5 degrees, means the needed (extra) multifeed skew for the dish/pole would be -8.5 degrees.

(Minus means: when you are looking towards the satellites: counterclockwise.)

Do you have a pole that is easily adjustable, in skew angle?

Thankyou thats very kind of you. The dish came with its own mount. It's attached with 4 bolts... I could (to test) undo 3 of the bolts and start rotating -8.5 degrees counter clockwise the entire assembly.

Ah yes.
A 'non-penetrating roof mount (NPRM)' would have had more flexibility of 'setting a skew angle'. I was hoping you had such a thing... :(

(Of course, when facing the wall, -8.5 would mean 8.5 degrees clockwise...)

as im not totally convinced yet that this can even work... I took the dish down to try skews and made a thing...

Good testing!

The extra thing is, that 19E is not exactly 180 degrees opposite of your wall, is it?
So -8.5 degree skew when aimed at 19E, would equal ?? degrees skew on the wall?

I believe that can be calculated, when you know all the starting angles, but I always find that difficult.
Or tested in practice, as you are doing now?

Somewhere near the -8.5 degree would already be far better, than with zero extra skew.
The -8.5 would improve especially, that you can have optimal reception at the 'extreme' satellites: 13E and 28E. Otherwise better reception at the one extreme, would cause worse reception at the other extreme.

I've added the exact skew and some variants too (tried lots). Tried many many positions on all axis with my test bench I built for several hours. The situation has improved, mostly by the skew; but ultimately I think this dish isn't suitable for the UK... and I live in the South of the country. I'm a little annoyed given it was sold to me on the basis it'd be fine. However I'm satisfied now I've done a lot of due dilligence. Attached are some final screenshots of signal of each of the four satellites on the best transponders, I'm picking up the channels I care about now, but not every channel... the reality is I get about (in clear weather and no wind/rain):

60% on Hotbird,
80% on Astra 1 and
70% on Astra 2
(forget Astra 3)..

I'm strongly considering asking to exchange it for an 85cm dish and 4 LNB's from the same vendor tomorrow; hopefully they're ok with that... Reason being, if I sneeze, or there is a slight breeze or rain, or anything really... this dish will become out of alignment entirely.

There is a specialised dish, for multiple LNB's, called a Wave Frontier 90cm.

If going for 4 LNB's, on an 80cm dish, you might need slim LNB's, also known as Bullet LNB's.

Please post results for 23.5E
