My First Motorised Set Up..

Nice setup, i wonder how easy is to find the motor 1224 in a store ? does anyone know ?
 
Almost impossible, they stopped being manufactured some time ago, but there are other options.

I didn't manage to get anything east of 57E, will keep trying if you say they are getable. I'll try on a day when there is no wind at all in the morning and later in the day. How do you do on 30W, I can't pick up 12012H 30000, 12052H 30000 or 12092H 30000! Can you , is this due to my dish size? Others on 30W really strong, I thought I'd get these as well?
 
Have a careful look at all the parameters for those TPs: The Verticals are MPEG2, but the Horizontals are 8PSK MPEG4.

Sorry this is all new to me> What exactly does that mean? Especially with regards to receiving a picture?
 
The same frequencies are being used for two fundamentally different types of signal.

You are by now clearly familiar with parameters like frequency, symbol rate and polarity .......... there is also FEC (which generally is auto-detected) and, relatively recently, different Modulation methods for HD signals.

In the latter case, MPEG 2 is old hat, so to speak, and is probably what your Receiver finds without any manual specification of additional parameters, but MPEG 4 in many cases require you to manually specify the associated parameters eg QPSK or 8PSK - and, unusually, perhaps even the FEC, in order for you to resolve a signal into Video & Audio.

I have a Humax Foxsat (two, actually!) and it is a bit of a pain having to enter all the relevant parameters for non-Freesat HD stuff, especially when Channels change their Modulation method!
 
You should be able to pick those 2 TP's up no problem both part of the MEO package

Just checked on King of Sat, I can pick up 11731H 30000 on 30W which is also DVB-S2 8PSK. Why not 12052H & 12092H?

My receiver only allows you to input the frequency, polarity and symbol rate in manual scan, nothing else. Anyway round this?

The difference between the TPs you're having trouble with and the ones you mentioned later is that the tricky ones are using two different sets of parameters (Modulation type and Polarity) on the same TP whereas the later mentioned ones differ only in Polarity, not Modulation types so I suspect that is what lies at the root of the matter ie You've picked up one set of Channels from that TP but there is no way of discriminating between those and the other Channel types on the same TP.

You need someone with specific knowledge of that receiver - but I'd be surprised if it isn't possible to create another custom TP to overcome it.

Thanks for that Tivu, that all makes sense to me. I'll investigate further, do you know of anyone on this forum with knowledge of this receiver?

Must be the MPG4, both signals are around 17.5dB SNR or -23dBm according to Crazyscan and the Prof, DVB Dream just reports them as 100/100SQ, France 24 is FTA on 12092H.
 
I have figured out why I couldn't pick up certain transponders on 30W, it turned out to be the lnb setting I was using. In the set up menu of my receiver a multitude of settings is offered for the lnb using ku band. I had checked the specs on the Inverto site re my lnb, couldn't find anything suitable. So after looking at signal quality readings I plumped for 'Universal 9750/10750' and started scanning away. All seemed ok, a few transponders were missing here and there, just the odd 2 or 3, nothing major. The only sats I had more problems with were 16E, 19.2E and 28.2 where with quite a few of the higher frequency transponders I had to 'play' around with the symbol rates. I noted this earlier in this thread. Finished all my scanning and looked at what I had, there was plenty but comparing my 'bouquets' with what was supposed to be available I noted I was missing about 25% of the channels. I wasn't sure why, maybe my dish size? A few questions on here and you guys told me I should be able to pick up 2 specific transponders on 30W so after playing around with my receiver I tried 'Universal 9750/10600' lnb setting. Everything pretty much now scanning in, all my bouquets as they should be. Very impressed with whats available :) but why did 1 setting sort of work and the other completely work ? I understand the frequency aspect of the transponders, but what about the 10600 and 10750setting for the lnb? Still can't get beyond 57E, I think either trees or my roof are in the way
 
By using 10750 instead of 10600, you are effectively looking at frequencies 150MHz away from where you thought, when scanning in High Band. The Receiver "tunes" the Downconverted signal, so a TP of eg 12480MHz produces a frequency of 12480 - 10600 = 1880 MHz at the Receiver input. If you used the Local Oscillator frequency 10750 instead, then that would Downconvert to 12480 - 10750 = 1730 MHz.



Low Band would be unaffected as you were using the correct Local Oscillator frequency.

Never thought of this as the root cause of your ills, but of course it makes total sense now!

? 150MHz higher than what? What's my starting point/reference? How does that explain some transponders being picked up on the 'wrong' setting with the correct info on frequency, polarity and symbol rate being inputted.
 
All Transponders up to around 11700 would be received correctly and all above that would not.

Ku Band signals have 4 "flavours":

Low Band Horizontal

Low Band Vertical

High Band Horizontal

High Band Vertical

In order to switch from Low Band to High Band, a 22KHz tone is sent from the Receiver, causing the LNB Local Oscillator to switch from 9750 to 10600 MHz.

In order to switch Polarity, the LNB voltage is toggled from 13v to 18V.

The changeover from Low Band to High Band is at 11700 (approx) MHz.

What this means is that although the part of Ku Band Satellite TV uses is from 10700 to 12750 MHz ie just over 2GHz wide, the Downshifted frequencies (Intermediate Frequency, if you like) can be contained in a smaller Bandwidth .... roughly from 950MHz to 2100MHz, making design easier to accomplish.

(All figures nominal ..... not sure what the exact changeover frequency is, but its around 11700 maybe a bit higher)
 
Thanks for that Tivu, sorry but its still clear as mud :confused: I get what you say about the 4 flavours etc. On my receiver there are settings for 9750, 10600, 10750, custom, uni 9750/10600 and 9750/10750. Why have the others?
 
Because things have not always been as they are now ................. 9750/10600 is, these days, almost Universal.

Its like any other techie system - diversity at the beginning tends finally to pull together into one unified system (Or does it ....!!)
