I have an old sly dish, and since i've had an extenstion to the house i have lost the signal to some of the free channels (i had cancelled my subs and was using the dish and receiver for FTA) I cannot receive bbc1, ITV1,2 and 3 and sky3. The others seem ok. Anyway as i have just purchased an art card and toying with freeview, my question is, another poster has advised me to point my dish at 5w and this will allow me to get fta french channels (my mrs is french and pissed after losing TPS :D) is it easy for me to point my dish to this location ? If so what equipment will i need? Am i correct in thinking i will need a compatible receiver for the french channels?

You could do it without a meter but one would help a lot.

They're not that expensive, try eBay.

If you have a Sky receiver then you would be better to get yourself a cheap FTA receiver, again eBay.

Keep the forum posted on your progress.

(It helps if you list your kit in the 'My System' section.)

I think you'll need an old analogue receiver for these; couple of quid at car boot. I used to get them on a old Nokia; I think they are there in digi also, but scrambled

well to get the tps channels back you will need a dreambox or technomate reciever as they can auto update with the keys and such

I read somewhere about autoupdates, however would that mean i would need to have my receiver constantly connected to my Laptop/PC? What type of technomate receiver would you recommend and is a reliable and viable option?

Whats the PCI card receiver option? Is that something similar to Haupage(sp) WinTV?

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Auto updates are usually on the box and via the satellite itself, the PC connection is usually only to upload patches etc.

Yep, a PCI Satellite card is similar to other TV cards, only it's designed for digital satellite TV and also Satellite Broadband (bit advanced that)...

I am confused now, some are saying not to bother with autoupdate and you guys are saying its an option. Can any of you well informed people recommend a technomate receiver and also how i would go about setting up the receiver to pull down the keys as they change.

Personally I'd go for the TM1500 as it's known to be an easy box to work with. As for Setting up the receiver for the keys and stuff, unfortunately I haven't got that far myself so someone else will have to inform you...

My local satellite guys says that i would be wasting my time with using my old sly dish on atlantic bird, would anyone agree? He has suggested that i should motorise my current dish trouble is it going to cost a fair bit to do as i'm not confident enough to have a go myself.:-doh!
