But I thought you determined that the reflector had no reflective properties to speak of?
Have you painted it with something reflective?

Not yet. The dish still works as sample. It is so nice that it can stay like that forever :rolleyes:. Well, this may be some kind of showoff again :-rofl2
 
Just got package delivered (that was quiet fast, yesterday in Copenhagen, today at my door). Guess what was inside!
@st1 thanks very very much for that.
It is so dirty! :eek: But I know how to clean it.... do not tell my wife I will be using her shampoo again. :rolleyes:

Well, it's been outside for 20+ years, so I guess some dirt must have accumulated.
And I don't think anyone's ever bothered to give a good shampoo :)
 
Spent quiet some time to clean this 1m dish. Made a great mess in the bathroom :eek:, but result is great as well. Not perfect of course..... nothing is perfect. :oops:
Should think about the way how and where to install it.

Amazing result! I never thought it would look that good - we'll never know if it makes any difference to the reception... :)
Speaking of reception - stick it on a PM and see what happens when you scan the arc?
Or better - point it in the same direction as the SMW OA-1600, and check the difference between a single focus 100cm and the SWM dish...

That was my thinking today as well. Actually, I thought that you've tried to clean that dish but failed :eek:. TBH, I spent so much time cleaning this dish as never before, even on bigger dishes. I think it was ~3 hours of constant work.... unbelievable! But, thanks again, Sten, the dish is great!

I didn't dare.
I originally got it off the local version of Ebay; when it arrived it had a very rusty PM attached, and had all of the stains baked-into the reflector:

Actually, the feedarms are not in a such a bad shape at all..... I've seen feedarms in much worse condition . I will probably use them as they are. Of course I will install new LNB-holder.
 
Found one old CM PM..... it was in bad shape. So, cleaned everything, removed rust, painted, thrown away rusty parts, replaced some by INOX made.

Rimant - a bit of welding advice needed. If I use stainless steel / INOX rods on INOX steel, will anti rust properties remain or would you paint the weld section? Not sure if heat required for welding ruins it...

So there is life after rust...
Will be good to see the mount being brought back to life (use).
How did you remove the rust - electrical drilling machine w. steel brush head?
And for the paint - do you give it a base coast, then hammerite or similar?
And were you able to save the Oilite bushings, or do you need new ones?
 
For rust removal used rotating metal brush and also hand brush. Then- liquid rust transformer. Had leftover of navy-blue paint, just enough for one layer. Bushings are original, just sand-papered them till they shine ;)

I am guessing it's property of the material, and will not change due to the heat.
Otherwise RimaNTSS would have quite some brackets with rust on them by no :)
 
INOX is some tricky material, as it can get infection! For example, if you use usual file or metal brush on INOX, for sure it will start to rust..... even if it is INOX! Never touch INOX with iron things! Welding place will not rust if you treat it properly, I mean special materials with no iron inside, for example diamonds. It is also no good when iron mount is touching INOX holder......, yes after some time there will be some rust.... unfortunately.
