About 3 years ago I bought myself a Philips HD ready 42" 42PF3331/10 Flat TV. As it was one of the last left in the shop the price was reduced to about 999 € from 1500 €. Straight from the beginning I had problems with it, I could not connect my notebook to it. I tried everything, changed cables, cable lenght, called support, etc. Gave up on it, thought it was the notebook.
After about 1.5 years I got my QboxHD, and also there I had problems. Whenever the TV was put on standby, it would not connect to the QboxHD again, unless the qbox was rebooted (which took too long). So the shop send a tech guy, showed him the problem and they took it back. After a while they told me that they checked it, and that with their receivers it worked fine. So again I went to the shop, showed them that it wasn't working as it should, and they sent it to Philips. It took a few weeks, and they said that they could not find a fault but changed the main board. TV came back, all working nicely - so something must have been wrong. After 6 months, around November or December last year, it started to do the same thing again suddenly. So I got the guys from the shop to pick it up again, although the warranty for the original repair was already expired. They sent it to Philips, and I included a letter telling them the whole story. It took several months (!!!), and then Philips told the shop that the problem was that the TV had an HDMI driver of the old generation, and that it was causing problems with my new receiver. Whatever.

They agreed to replace my 42" with a 40", but one with full HD, LED technology etc. When I asked them to give me a 42 they almost laughed at me, telling me I should be grateful they are swapping my old TV to one with the newest technology, and it was "only a couple of cm smaller". In a way, they were right and in another way they weren't. After all it wasn't my fault that the first TV was crap. In the end, the shop I bought it from adviced me to take the offer, which I did. But I wanted a bigger TV as my living room is quite long, so the shop done me a super super deal whereby I had to pay 450 € to upgrade, and now I got an all singing all dancing 46" TV with network connection, Internet, Ambilight, the whole lot. So despite all thank you Philips and thank you local shop with excellent customer service - and I can watch the world cup in style :D

P.S. Wife hates the Ambilight but that was expected. Me and the boys love it though.
P.P.S. Got the new TV connected to internet, and was looking for the online movie on demand, and for some of the features advertised with the TV - turns out they are not active yet .
But picture is great, sound is great and lots of functions to play with.

Do you find the 'home ' button and menu access a bit slow ?

I think the speed is ok, the only thing a bit slow is the internet connection, i.e. it takes much longer to browse in youtube on the TV than on the computer. Have you got a similar model?

Nice deal. As you can see from the My System details on the left I like Philips TVs. I went for them after significant reading up to find a TV that could get the very best out of SD transmissions as, at that time, I had neither an HD source nor the possibilty of getting one. I had previously had a 32" CRT Philips TV and had always been very impressed with the SD picture so this was not really a surprise. When I eventually connected up an HD it was tremendous.

Regarding Ambilight I have mine permanently switched off. It seems to me that the TV needs to be wall mounted and the wall painted a very light colour to be at all efective. My TVs are on pedestals and therefore Ambilight is totally useless.

Yes, the Philips picture quality in SD and HD is very good, especially when using the HDMI instead of SCART entrance.
My TV stands very close to a white wall, so the Ambilight works quite nice. I am looking at the option of a wall mont, but it will have to be one of those that you can move as otherwise it is impossible to reach the connectors at the back.

No, but I've installed a few. Picture quality is excellent, but the menu system is always the part that extends the overall installation time.

I now put the antenna up, and start the search for channels before clipping the cable to the wall.

I see. I did not do a channel search yet as I am using 3 sat tuners. But maybe the installation menu was a bit slower.
