Need advice, installing motorised system

hi there,just new to the site i am installing my motorised system tomorrow morning (wed 14th oct)i have a channel master dish and an echostar ad-3000ip reciever been busy collecting info as to where i am regarding long and latt figures i live south wales in canton so information i have is( long -3.215/latt 51.485/elevation 31deg/lnb skew for thor sat -1.9 wish me luck)if this sounds ok please post reply dont want to be up a ladder all week got the pub to go to many thanks madjock
 
You can double check your latitude and longitude on multimap or similar, Skew should be zero on a motorised dish . You will also have to allow for being 2 degrees West of Thor 1W when lining everything up.

Have moved your post from the installer section, as I presume this is a DIY job.
 
thanks for such a quick reply,i have put my postcode into dishpointer .com and thats the result that came up.so out of interest why is there no skew needed on my lnb motorised dish cheers
 
i have been on multimap.com put in my postcode cf5 1## and still comes back with the same long and latt figures no harm in double checking everything as this will hopefully save time later
 
just a tip i would send dish to 1w first then test your sygnal and lock everything tight plus also makesure lnb is wheather proof.
 
when you say send do you mean manually move it because i wasnt wanting to move it with motor as i have every thing centered and in line i was waiting until i found thor as it is then tighten every thing up then start to go round the arc to see if i could pick up more sats if not bring it back to thor loosen again and tweak it some more but thats my way of thinking ,does that make sense or is there an eaiser way

As 1W is not your Due South, you need to drive the dish two degrees East of centre, then align on 1W, this should give you the top of the arc.

I'm assuming that you have a polarmount, and the reason that you don't require any skew on the LNB, is that the mount will tilt the whole dish as it moves around the arc.
 
i understand now ,i was told when you go round to say 30 east or west the whole dish looks twisted and points more lower and of course the lnb is attatched and moves and dips with the dish, sounds easy once you know that the sats get lower the more you move round the arc.i wish i had thought of that.cheers again,i will let you know how i get on in the morning.

Because the locus described by the Motor or Actuator automatically creates the correct Skew, as you move across the arc from zero.

Similarly, it effectively adjusts the Elevation.

That's how the Motor or Actuator works - by tracking the Clarke Belt. Obviously it can only do so correctly after you've set the system up mechanically in accordance with your Latitude.

Also having a longitude of 3.2151°W, you could move the polar mount 1.8° West of centre for alignment onto AB3, another strong satellite on which you could set up on. Either way both are as close as each other, but another option :)
 
thanks for the tips lads but to no avail,if i was up that ladder once i was up there 100 times,i have a good view of the south ,set my dish up found about six sats but could i find thor,not for love or money could i find it,could someone please check to see if it is still there as i think it must have fallen out the sky overnight anyway am going for a bath and then for a pint,tomorrow is another day please e-mail some info for installers canton cardiff area cf5 thanks
 
As two members have suggested, look for 5w instead. You can use either transponder 11591H 20000 or 12543 H 27500. You should get this readily and then try to get the signal quality to the highest you can; if you do this, then 1w ("Thor") should come in by itself more or less.

EDIT: I realise now that this is a Polar mount rather than diseqc motor so have deleted reference to USALS.
 
Think O/P is using 36v although this hasn't been confirmed as of yet.
 
If the OP is using the Echostar for driving the dish, it has to be a 36V motor/actuator. The AD3000IP doesn't do Disecq 1.2.

just to clarify on locus

basically the same way u draw a circle using a compass? the motor being the centre and the lnb being the circumference as it goes along the arc??i am rusty in maths just refreshing:)
