- My Satellite Setup
- planning new satellite/network cabling for entire house
- My Location
- Croatia
Just when I thought I had gotten all info I needed for buying and
mounting the dish/4 quattro lnb's (16 coax cables), I started further
considering earthing and mounting locations, so I'm back to square
one.
The dish which will be used will be between 110cm and 125cm.
There can be very strong southerly and northerly winds.
As I understand it, ideally, the mast/dish and ground block (coax cable
earthing) need to be earthed on the outside of the house.
I would appreciate some advice/opinions/thoughts on the 3 possible
mounting locations (marked 1-3 on the attached photos) from those
more experienced in installation:
photo A, camera facing south corner of house (dish will be facing towards camera):
There is no earthing on this corner of the house (thanks to the electrician ;))
- I would need to pull an earth cable down from the earthing on the
roof (as seen on photo). I guess this would be effective in case thunder
struck the roof earth or the dish as lowest resistance would be upwards to the roof and then to earth.
Coax cables would come from a central spot in the cellar, some 10m
through the house to the outside wall and then some 5m upwards in
plastic pipe to location 1 (on outside of balcony) or 2 on inside of
balcony/easier to align/adjust lnb's)
photo B, camera on northern side of roof, facing south.
The cables should be run through the roof near the location of the
air vent on the photo. The roof is 10cm concrete covered with
insulation between planks, then special foil and a layer of planks holding the roof tiles .
I would need to get someone to drill through the concrete.
Here the earthing is nearby but before lifting the dish at all, it would be
slightly higher than the earthing (roof is slanting on north and south cca 30 degrees)
- so I guess the earth spike would need to be lifted higher than the dish
(at the moment it is slightly above highest point of the roof).
Also, I am not sure what would be the best way to
mount the dish to ensure it will hold up to wind (I'm not sure standard
mounting between planks (eg photo C) would hold up) and not create
condensation/leakage problems - problems which would very quickly
outweigh my desire to watch DVB-S programmes ;).
Now off to the New Year celebrations :-hny
