Dreaming Satellites
My Satellite Setup
Dreambox 8000 HD,
80cm Orbital Satellite Dish
Motorized
LNB with 2 outputs, 2nd output leading to upstairs and using Dreambox 500S.
Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K Amp/Receiver,
My Location
Stockton-on-Tees, Cleveland
I have a Samsung 37" HD LCD TV, a SKY Digibox, a Dreambox 500 S and a Philips DVD recorder..

The thing is I want them all connected to the TV and the 2 receivers to the DVD recorder, the problem is;
The TV has 2 SCART sockets (1 of them a RGB socket)
The DVD Recorder has 2 SCART sockets as does the Digibox
The Dreambox only has 1 SCART socket

how do I do it??

I want to be able to record from both the Digibox and the Dreambox (obviously not at same time) and I want the 3 connected via RGB mode, how do I do it??

Your biggest problem is the recording.
How many video inputs does the DVD recorder has?
If out of the two SCARTS only one of them has video input then you need to use a switch and connect the two sat receivers to it to enable you to switch to the prefered channel to record.
Does the Digi Box has an RF modulator?
If it has then you can connect it's output to the antenna socket of the recorder and select one of the program buttons to be on the same RF modulator channel number, usually in the UHF range.
This way you can record from the Digi while the recorder is on this program number and record from the 500S using the AV input.
The quality of the RF is not as good as AV, but this way you won't need the switch.
When you get this point cleared up, we can then discuss the other connections.

These are the connection slots at the back of;
Samsung 37" HD LCD TV (LE37R8)
x1 RF
x2 SCART
SCART 1 (RGB)
SCART 2
x3 HDMI
x1 AV
x1 Component (Y Pb Pr)
x1 Audio L/R
x1 PC

Philips DVD Recorder (DVDR3480)
x1 RF (IN) x1 RF (OUT)
x2 SCART
SCART 1 - EXT 1 (TV) (RGB)
SCART 2 - EXT 2 (for SAT box etc..)
x1 S-Video (out)
x1 Video (CVBS out)
x1 Component (Y Pb Pr Out)
x1 audio L/R (out)

Thomson SKY Digibox
x1 RF (IN) x1 RF (OUT)
x1 2nd location RF (OUT)
x2 SCART
SCART 1 - EXT 1 (TV) (RGB)
SCART 2 - EXT 2 (Video)
x1 audio L/R (out)

Dreambox DM 500 S
x1 SCART
x1 AV

OK. Good.
This is how I would connect this system.
Please check the attached file. I have used different colours to make it easy to follow the connections between the various boxes.
Unfortunately the DVR seem to have only one AV video input and therefore there is a need to compromise either by using the RF out from the Digibox or to use an AV manual switch.
See post #2 above.
This connection system will enable you to monitor everything on the TV, even when the DVR is occupied during recording.
Since you have only one RGB on the TV, then you need to compromise.
I have left the audio bit out since I have no idea if you have external loudspeakers or any additional audio equipments.
Let me know if there is any problem with this connection.

I downloaded the manual for the DVR 3480 and it looks like it has an extra video input that you didn't mention in the front behind a flap, supposed to be for camcorders, but you can connect to it the SCART output from the Digibox and use a SCART to RCA cable to connect to it.
To record use source: CAM
So you don't have to use the RF OUT after all or a manual switch. :)

If you want a simple solution just connect the Scart from the DM500 to the SkyBox input. The Sky is fed into the DVD, and the DVD feeds into the TV.

When Sky is off the DM500 signal feeds straight through the SkyBox.

One of the requirements is to be able to record from the 500S and watch TV using the Digibox, and vice versa.
It doesn't look like this is possible with this connection.

Thanks, this was the method I used, I hardly watch through the SKY Digibox now anyways (reason - no need to ;))
