Need help setting up sky german with topfield tm5400ci+

hi all and before you ask yes i am a complete novice so go easy. im in London uk. My system was set up to view nova greek with a different decoder and i have now changed to sky german and the topfield tm5400ci+. Im very confused i have moved the sat dish from 13E to 19.2E (i think) but when i do a service search i get no channels found.So here are the questions
1. i was using a simple SLX Satellite Finder Meter and found what i believe to be astra.Is there anyway of checking im pointing at the right sat?
2.I have some settings on the receiver that i have no idea what they should be can any1 try to explain (the idiots guide way pls) what should the setting be for
LNB freq?
lnb power is on
DiSEqC1.0?
DiSEqC1.1?
USALS settings?

please any help would be appreciated

Welcome to the forum,

Suggests your not aligned on the satellite. Alignment from 13e to 19e would also require the dish elevation to be lowered a tad.

You mentioned DiSEqC1.0, DiSEqC1.1 and USALS. These settings are for LNb switching and motor control. Shouldn't need to change anything here and should be off.

See if you can get back onto Hotbird, then using the meter adjust the azimuth of the dish a couple of inches to the right (looking at the dish from in front of the LNb) also drop the elevation a notch as mentioned. Re-scan the receiver for services.

thx for the swift reply. So what i understand is that without adjusting the elevation you would not pick up any channels even thou i was pointing at 19.2? is this correct...
 
also can i scan for channels with meter still connected inline?? very much appreciate your help..
 
Are you scanning a single transponder when checking a satellite? Always best to do this, as it won't junk up the receiver with loads of data.

You could well be seeing 16E, easy to check, just look at the site SM has given you and search on one transponder. You will still receive something without moving the elevation on 13, 16 and 19 East, but obviously the signal will be weaker on the sats lower in the arc.

Not sure about whether you will have a successful scan with the meter inline, try it both ways.
 
thx rolf when i was doing a scan after alligning dish i was bassically picking satellite astra on my receiver scrolling down to service search and basically searching and nothing was coming in. Would i be right in thinking if my dish was looking at 16E and i searched using setting for Eutelsat my receiver would find these channels then at least i would know that my dish needed to go a further 3E does that make sense?

Also you talk about search using 1 transponder looked at the site which paul pointed me in but couldnt work out what i was looking at could some1 tell me which transponder i would use for receiving sky german my receiver has four search modes
1.search every service of a satellite
2.search every service of a transponder
3.search one service of a transponder
4.search every service of a SMATV

if im right in thinking i should be using either 2 or 3 i would need transponder freq
symbol rate of desired tp
polarization parameter of desired tp
and if its option 3 i would also need to specify the PIDs of desired serviceat the PID menu S**T im confused :eek::eek:
 
Look for advanced scan, it should enable you to pick a single transponder already existing in the list.

By the way, you say you have a Topfield, but the receiver number you mention would appear to refer to a Technomate.
