Need help with dish choice for 0.8w

I'm stuck between this I found on ebay

or a Triax TD110.

I've never heard of Faval though. Does anyone know if the TD110 comes with a pole mount?

Scratching my head a bit as I've still got to learn coming straight from installing just $ky.

I think Faval is Portuguese, not bad dishes apparently, the Triax comes with a pole mount as standard.

A 1.2m dish is not necessary for Thor. Should be reasonable for 7W though, with an offset LNB for Thor.
 
a 1.2m will help on the nordic beam on thor 3 if the channels are on this satellite

Yes it's scandinavian Canal Digital I'm looking to receive.

Would the TD110 be sufficient?
 
Yes, All transponders can be picked up with that dish, though, as said the Nordic ones are a little weaker.
 
just depends what channels you are going to view as its only really the regional channels for those countries that are on nordic beams

as pretty much of canal+ channels are on the thor 5 satellite of which the dish you have bought will easily receive

have you bought the dish to view canal+ sport ?
 
The Nordic beam is a lot easier down here anyway wod. In Kent and Essex, we get it a bit better than the rest of the UK.

nordic beam comes in nicely on my 90cm andrews so just depends as you say how the footprint really is for that nordic beam
 
Well hopefully I can pick some more brains.

I installed the dish earlier today, and despite having to drill new holes in the back of the boom arm to achieve a good focal point from the dish, and also having to insert some bloody cardboard near the front of the dish to also raise the boom arm and push it to the right, I eventually managed to get 100% quality on the vertical transponders of Thor 5 using a Horizon meter, but I could get no more than 50db signal on the horizontal, so no lock.

Thing is I need to get the horizontal as yes wod the customer has paid £900 for the canal digital card alone, more or less purely for the sport, and two of the three canal sport channels are on the horizontal transponders.

Despite my location being Essex, the dish was installed in east London.

Thanks for everyone's input so far as well, but I could do with a little more help as I'm baffled.

Which transponder's that then? as the only horizontal sports I can see are on T1 beam which is very very easy to get.

BTW I have never needed to modify the arm by drilling holes, or moving it, it can be done with a lot less fuss by using an LNB with a long enough neck, like the Smart Titanium single. Though after trying a few few differnt LNB's on that dish, the inverto silver tech twin came out on top for me.

Which LNB are you using?
 
No problem with the Nordic beam here in the Mids using a 100cm.

Thinking much the same Robbo, also Canal+ Sport HD Skandinavien on T2.
 
11938H on T2 (HD) is so strong, even better than BBC World, it would come through on a zone 1.
 
Yes, must be dish/LNB or alignment problems.

Unfortunately I didn't have the veritable cornucopia of LNBs that you do ;) so it wasTechnomate that I robbed from an 80cm TM dish that wasn't being used.

Canal Sport 2 which is listed as 11.261H, and Canal Sport Extra at... the same frequency?

So what am I missing?

I had to try a lot of LNBs, as I'm a Nilesat geek ;)

The TM LNBs are long enough I think to push right in, and not need to mod the arm.

Something is drastically wrong. The signal from that one is huge.

No line of sight issues?
Could be that the LNB has croaked.
 
Thor 5 T1 should be an easy enough catch with a 110cm in the SE.

Are you sure the dish isn't warped.
 
It's on top of a flat roof, so definitely not an LOS.

100% dish isn't warped as I was pranging out that I'd bought a new dish and maybe the delivery guy hadn't read the large red writing on the side, but checked several times, and perfect. I also removed the boom arm before any drilling.

It's baffling the life out of me, as I couldn't think of ANY reason why the signal should be so crap on horizontal.

Edit: Just ordered that Inverto LNB as I was eyeing it anyway. See if that makes any difference when I return on Monday.

The other thing was I was getting a quality in the high teens low 20 on the horizontal on thor 3, just not 5.

This might not of helped :)

I'd try another LNb, realign and see.
