80cm Technomate, Philips twin lnb, Telekom HD receiver, fixed on 39E

hi all,
new to the forum and i need some help with hardware
got fed up with the online streams beeing so unreliable so switching to satellite as they don't fall as often as the online streams :D
the satellite i am after is the hellas sat 2 at 39E
i have checked satlex and dishpointer and according to them these are the numbers

now they say that i will need an 80cm dish but will i get away with a 60cm?
it's just that my landlord might not appreciate an 80cm dish hanging above the front door :D
i was thinking if i can stick it to the wooden shed in the back garden but as it needs to be aimed over the house the aim line is JUST above the house and don't know how the signal will be plus the wooden panels on the shed don't look too strong and i have no idea how heavy the dish is
i have used the satfinder app on my phone to see how i need to point the dish and horizontal angle is quite small is someone with a 60-80cm dish willing to try and point it to 39E and see if it even works?
ok so here are the questions
do i go for a full dish or a mesh one? should i be worried about strong winds?
will any lnb do?
is it a dyi job to mount it on the house wall or should i pay for a specialist do do it for me?
are there good brands or pairs of dish/lnb that will work good together?

i have attached some pics to how how i was thinking to mount it.
the general direction is about the same with my neighbours.

which channels are you after? The beams aimed at Europe are an easy catch on small dishes, but there is a Middle Eastern beam thats impossible in Europe.

Not in Leicester.

No chance of 100mph winds there. Up north it could be a problem!

From the photos the front of the house would be very convenient and only a short run of cable required.

Those are on the f1 Europe beam and therefore nice and easy :)

You will of course need a subscription for 90% of those channels.

any good?
also the difference between single lnb and twin is about 6 quid so should i go for a twin one?
is it just the fact that i would be able to connect 2 receivers and see 2 different channels on 2 tvs?
or is there more to it?
is the reception/quality on the twin lnbs generally the same as on the single ones?

You need official subscription for those channels , Card paired with receiver , Hd is available .

Best to get a Twin or quad if you want it in 2 rooms .

I usually use a zone 2 sky dish and it works very well , but this is south coast .
 
It is best to get the Quad LNB and wire up all the rooms you want to wire up and get it all over and done with on one day.

If you are watching satellite daily then get a spare Quad LNB. Normally LNBs last for years but sods law means it will die without warning just before your favourite programme on a Saturday evening when the shops have closed.
 
sad but true...
i have received the hdbox and card today and will phone up a couple of local companies about fitting the dish. as it is my first one i thought leaving it to the pros. they might give me a good deal on a dish as well.
i only have one receiver and also i don't think i will need more than 2 so i will probably go for the twin lnb.

If they advertise as fitting for foreign services like Polish, various Asian, Middle Eastern etc etc then it will be like falling off a log, the signal is strong.
 
Hmm strange...
I phoned a couple of companies today and I got some unexpected answers from them.
Both asked me what kind of dish it is and what satellite will it point to and when I told them that it will be an 80cm dish pointing to Hellas 2 on 39e the first guy said they only fit sky dishes and the second one just hanged up. lol
Oh well will try some more tomorrow
If anyone knows a decent company that can do this for me please let me know. Or I will probably end up doing it myself [emoji3] green light from the landlord (wondering why the wife hid the cordless drill gun [emoji48] )
 
Big company's are useless usually .. look for the little guy in the local Friday Ad or Gumtree , you might be surprised .
 
Do it yourself - it's extremely easy. 39e Europe beam is strong in the UK, you can't miss it. Just make sure you have a line of sight to it as it's somewhat lower in the sky than other satellites.

Look at where the "Sky" dishes are pointing, then look to the left of the dish about 10 degrees (well, ok, 11) and check the there are no trees or buildings in the way. Or just use a DishPointer app on your phone.

There's plenty of help on this forum, so you won't get lost. You'll learn new things and you'll save some cash on any subsequent realignment jobs should the dish move in one of those storms we are having lately etc.
 
it does not look that complicated but my only fear is that the dish will come down taking a big chunk of the wall with it.
my landlord will definitely not be happy. this is why i really don't want to risk it. if it was my house then heck it would have been up by now :)
 
You do have to be careful with rendering, but as its a rental think out of the box. As long as you strengthen the shed with a decent panel inside it that would be ok - or get an 8 foot fence post & belt that into the ground. Bolt the top through the shed to support it and attach the dish to the post using stand off aerial mounts. They work fine as long as the dish isnt too exposed - Ive been using them on fence posts in the garden for years. (Dont use them in exposed locations, as they are not robust enough to take the flexing and will fail in time).
 
i managed to contact a couple of local guys. price wise i am looking at about 150 including dish, lnb, fitting, everything.
one said he will get me a "good quality dish" :) but obviously i won't be able to tell. how do you spot a good dish from a bad one? lol
for some reason it seems like many will only fit "sky" dishes
anyways i am busy this weekend so will have to wait for the next one. meanwhile will try to phone a couple more guys and see if i can get a better price but i doubt it :p
 
You'll find out if it's "good quality" or not if it starts rusting away in a year's time...

they mostly do mesh dishes so should i ask for a full one or it doesn't matter that much?
i searched around and it seems like everyone says that there is no real difference but since i am looking to aim for 39e will i need a full dish or will a mesh one do just fine?

That's a zone 2 sky dish , 60cm .. like i said before , i use it all the time for 39e and it's all good .
