Need to move dish, can i use a connector?

My Satellite Setup
Vu uno, VU Duo2, sky dish, 2 zone 2 dishes for 19.2 and 23.5. Satlink meter, rover STCeu meter. Tripod with a dish for messing around.

Hi, an installer installed a dish for me last winter. now in summer the tree opposite has bloomed and the signal is very poor.

I want to move the dish further back and higher up, i have a meter now and have installed a few so i am confident that i can do that no problems.

Problem i have is i have about 8 coax going to the octo on that dish, i dont really want to have to run all those new lengths and ideally would just like to use a junction of some description. in / out type of thing, does anyone know of such a thing?

Would this do the trick with a bit of water proofing?

Yes those couplers will be up to the job but, replacement cable runs are always the better choice. Don't forget to use self amalgamating tape :)
 
You could use a conduit junction. You can gland them to waterproof the cable entries. Though agree with Satellite Man, Replacment cable is the best option

Yes, but £1.59 each is a rip-off even from Maplin, try one of the site sponsors, you will find them cheaper, or ebay for that matter.
 
great got 5 for 2 quid from the flea bay.
i know i should use new runs but i am on a budget and i just need to get the dish around the corner :)

You're so right. I was searching the Maplin page to see how many you got for £1,59, couldn't believe it was only one!

Another possible source is a $ly installation van. You might be able to blag a few off one of them

That Maplin's page just shows the level of technical knowledge they have when they say the coupler "has no way of being mounted". Really gives you confidence.

Maybe I should start another thread on this...

Common wisdom seems to say connectors are bad and lossy, but I can't find anything on a meter to back this up. Obviously they are something else to go wrong, especially if they are badly fitted or not sealed up properly, but fitted properly, for me at least, they seem to work exactly the same as a continuous piece of cable.
 
I agree, I have joined many cables in my time as in installer and if done correctly with good quality "F" connectors, barrel and self amalgamating tape, the loss is normally 1db or less.
