I just can't get DB500 onto the internet.

I'm running Win.XP on two computers with a router.
Ip's are router-192.168.7.1 the other two pc's 192.168.7.2and3.
I've just realised that network setting were not installed so I've installed Network services and Network file and printers on both.

Now this is where I come adrift!
The 500 has an ethernet connector.
1) Can I connect direct to the router? I believe I need a Cat5 'straight' cable and use broadband or
2) Do I connect to the ethernet on the back of either pc and use modem (as a result broadband is disconnected) with Cat5e crossover cable.

Communication setup DB:
IP 192.168.7.24 (no DHCP)
Netmask 255.255.255.0 - Type LAN - Nameserver 192.168.7.1 - Gateway 192.168.7.1 -
Enable network (ticked) - Port 80
Mounts Manager
10.0.0.97 NFS

Is it necessary to Telnet192.168.7.24 to make initial contact with server?
( a nice little chart with all variations would help immensely for us newbies!)

Hello,

I doubt that you need network services installed.

OK, do ONE thing at a time so forget the mount for this post!

Connect your Dreambox to your router using a regular CAT 5 cable (the ethernet cable).

IP and Gateway are ok but set the nameserver to the IP of your ISP e.g. the DNS server IP that you entered into your router.

That should get you working. And make sure the Dreambox router has "permission" to use the router e.g. I limit the IP range that can use my router to 192.168.1.5 to 192.168.1.10

Hope that makes sense, if not try it and then ask again :)

Good Luck!

or if you use dhcp it will just set it all up for you,

router = straight thru
pc = xover

:)

Thanks for the help mhku and D4ftpunk.
I'll give this another try over the weekend. When I think about it the error was obvious!

My problem was the DB Manual which said 'NAMESERVER - Enter the DNs-sever IP address here........If the Dreambox is connected to the Internet over a Router, enter the Router's IP-address here.' GATEWAY - enter the Router's IP address here.' So you can see why I was confused.

You mention that the DB router should have permission to use the router. Where will I find it please?

Have you tried auto set up,I tried to set up router manually and all I got was questions, (my manual settings were the same as autoset up but the router would only accept auto) then plug in all computers and db to router, and it should recognise them.

Cheers

Tim.
