Hello everybody

This is my first post, and for sure is not the last :)

I have just moved to Uxbridge and realised my new rented flat has a satellite dish with a Skyware SX1019/S.

I have been trying to get any DTV channel with my indoor antenne (which worked fine in my last flat in Central London), but I can get no channels :(

Now I am thinking to buy a satellite receiver, but I am completely new in this stuff.

I like football a lot, and always though to install a satellite dish to watch foreign matches. I think this is a good opportunity to start.

First question to think about - how much are you willing to spend on subscriptions?? - Theres virtually no freebies these days.

The best foreign subs cost anything up to £1500 / year!

First of all, I'd like to be able to watch freesat (at least). As I can't see any channel with my indoor aerial.

I have the dish (a small one with the Skyware sx1019 installed, but don't know where to start.

I don't know I just need to buy a receiver (to try I'd prefer a SD, HD are expensive..). But I don't know what kind of receiver.

Could you recommend any good guide to start with?

A standard sd Freesat receiver starts at about 50 pounds, a foreign FTA receiver can be as little as 30 pounds.

Both will pick up about 100 channels off the Astra 2 satellite, including the BBC/ITV and others without difficulty.
 
Alternatively, look in your local small ads for second hand sky digiboxes, one of these will allow you to pick up even more channels.
 
There is no way a Sky Digibox without a card gets you more channels than a standard FTA receiver.

Anybody know about a good guide to start?

I even don't know how to put the dish pointing to Astra 2.

As I don't have broadband at home yet, because of the removal, I'd like to print out a good tutorial.

A cheap satellite meter may be your next purchase, starting at about ten pounds.

If the dish isn't too far up, you could stick the meter indoors and hear for the tone with the window open
