Only for a scanner X50 :), I bought a scanner last week and just taken delivery of the antenna, hopefully the scanner will be turning up today, something else to play with.

I need to get the one I have put to use Alex, its been sat in the shed for around 12 months now:(, I will order an actuator for it later today/tomorrow and get it finished to pick Ku band up, then work on C band and elevation at a later date:).
 
I am still using a uniden bc796d :-) trunk tracker. I had to import it from usa at the time.

Yours looks a nice bit of kit :-)

Yours looks a good bit of kit Chris :), the close call feature appealed to me to be honest i think only uniden have this option ?, I also bought a cheap dongle but not got much from it, things should change once I fit the antenna :).

I bought a £5 dongle from China as well. It works ok. The uniden is on a meter stick.

The uniden is not to good at data decoding I find.

I use an old realistic radio for that.

The uniden is used for voice services and its very sensitive unit.
 
Thanks for the information Chris, its years since I messed about with one, I still have one in the loft but the buttons don't work, I will find it out and see what make it is at some point.
 
I've got a Yupiteru MVT-7100 handheld scanner but I haven't used it for a long time. I should dig it out and see what's available. Isn't a lot digital now? Last time I used it was for checking PMR446 activity.

I have the 7000 and the 7100 as well. The trunk tracker and 2 old relastics for data use.
 
Problem is my scanner is in Finland at the moment and I'm not. When I had it in the UK I used to buy the UK Scanning Directory (I've still got an edition from 1997). My apartment in Helsinki is 80m high (it's the tallest building for miles) and facing the city so I should really have a go and see what I can pick up. I've lived there for 6 years now but never got around to doing any serious scanning, but you've inspired me to give it a go again when I'm back there.

¿Sounds like the one I used to use back in my aircraft/control tower listening days, years 1990 onwards?.....still have it somewhere !

The Android app Flight Radar now does the job....but it is not the same excitement wondering what the aircraft would be when it actually came into sight.

Happy days and yes it was a great scanner........this extract from a site seems to confirm this.

That's the one, I got it in 1995.

Thanks mate, I'll see what I can get in Finland then maybe bring it back with me next time. It'll probably be more interesting in the UK.

To be honest CH, it happened quite quick, i don't have the unit yet, but my plans are to co-phase two X50 white sticks, reading up my motorised tv antenna will pick certain stuff up so that's something to try for short directional stuff ,

As for a permanent beam, i will have to see what's parts of the bands interest me most and make a beam to suit, but i am open to suggestions :).
