I went to Lidl today and got myself an 80cm dish, a universal lnb 0.6db and a Sat finder, for just under £26, I can't wait until tomorrow to get it up and running. I was surprised to see them in Lidl considering they came out last week. I've been up and down ladders for 2 days now, with 3 dishes, so I decided enough was enough and got a new one. So fingers crossed. I hope the Sat finder works, cos I am fed up having to get someone to stay in the house and tell me if there is reception. So watch this space. I'm sure the neighbours are having a field day talking about me, LOL. ;)

Seeing as it is dark and raining I will wait until tomorrow to put my dish up, at the moment I have put up my sky digital dish again, but have been trying all day to get a signal. I have just plugged in my Sat finder and within 30 secs I had found my strong signal. £6 well spent I think.

They certainly do make life easier and as you say, for a relatively small amount of money. :)

LOL thanx for that Stevo, but it's not up tonight, I'm leaving it until tomorrow, saying that, I live in Northern Ireland and it's windy at the best of times. It will be put up properly though.

Hi Electric6, I'm just outside Newtownards. I am going motorised, but I have to get my dish organised first, I needed to get a decent dish and lnb, which hopefully I've got, won't know until tomorrow, I hope it isn't too windy and wet. Then when I tweak and turn my dish to see if I can get the other Sats, then I will be onto Ebay getting myself a lovely new motor. There was one in Belgium a couple of nights ago and it was 20 Euros, I asked how much for postage, OMG 30 Euros, I don't think so. I think it would've cost £45 in the end, still cheap, but I'll stick close to home I think.

I've just put my dish up, I managed to get Astra 2 although the sat finder didn't have a signal. I turned it slightly and got Astra 1, with a very strong signal on the sat finder. I can't seem to find Hotbird, but saying that, my hands are like ice, it is freezing out there and the wind is awful, so I'll wait until a good day to try again. If I can pick up these 2 sats, is it likely I could pick up Hotbird or any other satellites? It's not very easy to show you in a photo, so I have done a rough sketch, not a very good one may I add.

The Astra sats at 19.2 are to the right on your diagram (towards the sun) Hotbird is slightly more right (but not much) you should get a strong signal.

Move the dish slightly and then wait a few seconds for it to lock - try and find a strong FTA transponder to search for.

Don't envy you doing this today - spent long enough in December re-aligning mine - freezing.

Where I have the dish pointing in the diagram is where I'm getting my Astra 2 channels at the moment, when I turn towards the sun, absolutely nothing is getting through, so I've locked it in position for today, I'm not gonna attempt it, I'm getting ITV 3 LOL for the first time ever, might just watch that today, hopefully it will be better tomorrow, cos I have no patience whatsoever.

May just want a touch more elevation,
If you are on the bottom edge of acceptable at the moment, and a slight
skew of the LNB anticlock if you're facing the dish. :)

I moved the dish slightly right and got all my astra 1 channels very clear,(same as before) then another slight turn to the right towards the sun got me hotbird slightly, 68% quality, I scanned for channels and it only came up with (TPR, TPS Cinestar, TPS Homecinema, TPS Cinetoile, and a couple more TPS encrypted channels, nothing else, I enabled network search). I changed my elevation which didn't do any good. I'll try again tomorrow, if it's a good day. Thanx for that Lancelot. :-righton

*T-E-E-N-A, keep hold of them TPS channels, and re-scan again for Multivision when you got it set right. MR cam with 1.170 clears them all :)

Thanks Daveenty, I'm gonna give it another go today, I noticed that the arm holding my dish isn't exactly straight, but it is adjustable, I'll get the old level out, it isn't that far out, but it could be making all the difference.

Teena,

I would be interested to know where you got the Satfinder for £6.
I need one to set up a motorised dish and they all seem to cost > £30.

Hi Jayedin, I got my sat finder in Lidl for £5.99, but I've seen them on ebay infact this is my model, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4693&item=5742662560&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW. No doubt bought from Lidl. Ebay has some cracker bargains, like this one, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4693&item=5741993154&rd=1. Happy hunting.
