The trouble with dishes is that they are very expensive new but you can get a real bargain second hand.

As an example, the Gibby that Chris has only cost me £80 from FridayAd and I transported it on the roof of my car from Bristol. I think I passed it onto you Chris for the same amount.

Likewise, my 1.8m Channel Master dish cost me £41(!) but I had to hire a van and buy LNB arms which were missing. This all pushed the total price to just under £250 but it's still a bargain as it was virtually new and came with a heavy duty 4.5 inch NPRM stand. Don't ask how much was spent on other bits around it - it's well over a grand for sure.

However, second hand Laminas dishes are impossible to find second hand so I bought it new. It was over £600 delivered directly from Poland. And that was for the dish face only without any mounts.

I still have the petalised 1.8m prime focus Channel Master that I got for free but it's dish face only and I haven't really had a chance to play with it. Too many toys and no time....

I looked at a Laminas 1.8 over a £1000 delivered they told me. Then I asked for more details on this.

Not many 1.8 about second hand.

How much difference between that being delivered to the UK and to Metropolitan France TJ? If you were ever to come over, I'd happily take delivery of the dish here for you to collect if it was going to save you money.....always supposing we were'nt on holiday...

I must be mad o_O I have ordered a new 1.5 dish and polar mount.

xxxxxxxx only has a couple left and is no longer selling these dishes, once they are gone.

I grabbed the 1.5 dish + polar mount + delivery for £450.35

Only thing is I have to wait until the 18th March.

That's really expensive, last year they were being offloaded not far from here at £240 collect.

I used to get a few channels on my 1.2 dish and that’s with the lnb. About 3° of prime position.

You probably won’t get to many watching channels but definitely locks depending on what takes your fancy.

Grab the other 1.5 dish quick then as it’s very limited stock, and I don’t know where else I could get one especially for that money.

Plenty of decent suppliers in / around Germany, or possibly Gibertini direct.

We are visiting France but not until July and going to Najac as medieval history is her idol. I hope its not over hot as I know all that walking will be a killer for me. Thanks for the kind offer, if we were driving we could have popped in for a four course meal etc.

Did I miss something? What happened to the existing dish?

It’s taken quite a beating in the wind over the last couple of years, in ku I can only get horizontal transponders. No vertical.

I guess it needs to be straightened out. Still I do have plans in the summer.

I have paid for the new 1.5 already.

As I don’t have planing permission for the dish I want to replace like for like.

So hopefully I can use the devolpment has occurred.

Next door has built an extension, so the local planing chaps started to poke their noses in.

Fingers crossed I get a way with it.

If he is delivering kit personally next week, perhaps TJ could send that duff 2009 Stab rotor from Hisat to you beforehand for a swopout. You could check it as well if there is enough time since you know your stuff.

Whats the score with planning and things at ground level? I couldn't find any information about a dish just sat in my back garden.
Only about what sizes you can have on the wall.

People have HUGE tables and HUGE cantilever parasols in their gardens, gigantic sheds. Interesting to know where I stand with a big dish.

At least TJ got a newer one than me, mine must be really old firmware as it doesn't have Usals Satfinder but TJ's does!

As a general guideline, if the dish structure is not moveable it is classed as a fixed object and requires planning permission. If the dish is on some type of mobile structure that can be quickly relocated it is classed as non fixed or mobile and does not require planning permission. However, different local authorities may have their own specific interpretataion of this.

There are several forum topics where members have erected reasonable size dishes on mobile structures that can be raised for relocation and lowered for anchorage. The ones that immediately come to mind are those of blademedia, s-band and myself. I have pasted below the link to the humble and paltry effort I created.

Precision 2.2 metre Antenna Install

The master of the mobile structure was "blademedia", he created an awesome movable installation that left his neighbours and the council inspector speechless and totally outfoxed. The link is pasted below, this topic is nirvana for anyone with aspirations of becoming a "satellite modder". It is fabrication at its very best.

2.4 DH Antenna installation
