new hd sat box

My Satellite Setup
hotbird and astra
My Location

hi
just got a new hd sat box......MINI ONE....HD sat receiver

looks like I can get HOTBIRD 13 E and ASTRA 1 19.2 EAST

THERE are a ton of channels but a lot have a dollar sign beside them and are encrypted.

the free channels are spread here and there between numbers 1 and 700 or more

Is there any way I can get all the free channels to be in one long list so I can scroll through them ?
or alternately is there a way I can delete all the $ pay channels ?

to move the free channels one by one would be a very tedious task .....
hope there is some other way !

thanks for comments and advice.....

Hello
Every receiver has a sort button, which allows you to easily separate free and S channels.

You can only get Hotbird and Astra 1if your dish is aligned to those respective Satellites when you scan.

I am guessing you actually have a dish aligned to Astra 2 at 28.x deg and have selected Hotbird and Astra 1 in the receiver - the stored "Satellites" are just Transponder Lists and many of those Transponders have characteristics that match Transponder parameters that Astra 2 also has.

So, the Channels you have scanned in are from Astra 2.

If, however, I am wrong and you have managed to align a dish to other Satellites, just delete the entire Channel list(s) and rescan after pre-selecting "FTA only".

Welcome to this Brave new world!
Give us examples of Free to air channels... name & frequency.
to get 19E and 13E (Astra1 and Hotbird) your LNB must be a Monoblock for these 2 satellites.

If it s a single LNB you ll get ONE satellite. 19E OR 13E OR 28E.

Normally, when scanning for channels ,you get the options of
1)scan ALL channels
2)scan ONLY $ channels (encrypted)
3)scan ONLY FTA(non-$) channels.
Choose 3),the number will be much lower & easy to handle.

Use Kingofsat list to determine WHICH channels you want to keep. Many are
-religious propaganda "christian" and "islam/Muslim" point to this;
-just ads,shopping channels,pretty useless.The "QVC" batch is just that;
-languages you won t feel ready to digest.
IT will boil down to 80 channels or so...very manageable
Create favorite lists.
1 list: languages you know
1 for "News"
1 for the "exotic" ones

Which languages are you familiar with?

thanks for help... I just did a FTA scan for both astra 1 and hotbird.....
hotbird seems to have a lot of italian chans also polish and russion

astra 1 has a lot of german channels and even though I dont have all the $ pay channels

in there, there is still a lot of junk ... test type stuff.

over time ... prob one by one, I ll get the good interesting channels to the top of the list

for the time being I am enjoying the superb quality of HD .... the wonders of technology .......

it is just one LNB OUT THERE but I seem to be getting astra 1 with lots of german
and hotbird with lots of ital russ polish and in good quality
the dish was put up in 2011 and still working great

Yes you can delete the encrypted ones ot delete all and scan only free to air.

it is just one LNB OUT THERE

you can install 4 LNBs connected to DiSEqC
your receiver will receive the signal via only one cable entering your house via the DiSEqC
there will be no delay when selecting channels from different satellites because there is no need for a motor that rotates slowly

Here are 28°E __ 19°E - 16°E - 13°E - 9°E - 7°E
but you can install only 4 LNBs for 19°E - 16°E - 13°E - 9°E

Why would anyone wait for a slow motor to spin from 39°E to 5°W?
There is a DiSEqC model with 16 inputs and one output.
With three antennas like this I have had up to 15 LNBs, for instant access just like IPTV.

p.s.
Well, of course, one must first have a house with a yard/garden and the skills to do all this.

But I'm like the majority of men, I have a wife and a 19-year-old son.
When I watch TV channels from the satellite at 2 degrees east, my wife watches from 13 degrees east and my son from 5 degrees west.
There's no way all three of us can watch at the same time from just one LNB.
Another very important advantage of using quad LNBs is that I can watch a channel from one satellite on one receiver and record another channel from another satellite on a second receiver. There are 4 receivers and 4 TV in my house.
Each receiver can send the signal to a desktop/laptop computer in another room and thus watch different channels from two different satellites on two screens at the same time.
So, no marketing gimmick can sell me an antenna motor.

i ve made 2 favourite lists.... one for astra 1 sat and one for hotbird sat....
this allows me to avoid the junk.....
hopefully as time goes on I can add channels to the lists or delete channels
