New Horizons Pluto probe nearing its target

I thouht it was due to reach the planet :D mid 2015 ?

Have they given it some extra octane ?

Nearest pass is Bastille Day (July 14th) but three plenty of observations to be done before then :)

Ah, all that's happened recently is an alarm clock that went off indoors. Presumably NASA will check the onboard systems over the next few weeks and reprogramme some of the instruments with updated, less buggy software.

New Horizons launch with a weird looking 5 booster configuration

Booster separation is 1 & 2 then a pause and 3 4 & 5 :D

To get a good clear view of Pluto I usually stop drinking around Saturn.

Wow, I was under the impression that the Hubble Telescope took better pictures than that? But certainly will be interesting to see it.

The probe is passing at a rather fast pace, apparently it will skim past the whole planet in a shade under three minutes.

...and being so far from the sun, illumination will be poor ...thus long exposure times need for pictures ...
that being the case ...engineers/scientists have to compensate for the needed long exposures ..so presumably need to compensate by rotating the craft during the fly-by...and all at distance with no immediate response...
Thus all operations need to be pre uploaded..
These guys amaze me..
..and I thought I had trouble trying to restore a 1224 motor..
