New Inverto KaKu lnb

So ...it is not actually diseqc 1.0 control ...but more of a simple 22khz tone switch I assume ..
Tone on ..Tone off ..
but which is which Ku tone on ...or Ka tone on ?

It may be the TBS6983 not switching - Eric 123 above seems to have the same problem.

Just checked using the Promax analyser. Switches Ku perfectly well with a single cable to the KaKu output.
AB-A Command = Ku AB-B Command = Ka.
Will need to investigate why the 6983 card doesn't.

So ..are you now convinced totally that the internal switch uses diseqc 1.0 ..
?
and if so ...which is default ? (no control) ...ku diseqc 1.0 1(A) ...or 2 (B )....or neither ie no diseqc control = no output ?

I'm using the diseqc 1 protocol, and Ku is on port 1 or A and Ka is on port 2 or B.
Works ok on my Technomates, although sometimes the switch to Ka takes a little time for some reason, but the switch to ku is instantaneos

That seems to be the case. Ku either DiSEqC A or off, in other words default state, and Ka DiSEqC B.

Thats what I was hoping Llew ..
Chances are I will not use the lnbs internal switching ..but rather 2 cables to the lnb ..directly fed from my gecen 16-1 switch ..
Thus the cable orginally controlling the inverto black ultra (ku) diseqc 1.1 port 7 currently ... to the dual port of the new lnb (default mode) ....and a second cable previously to the XMW ka (currently diseqc 1.1 port 2 connected to the new lnbs uncontrolled port for Ka..
If this works ..then is perfect for my setup..

That should work, my port 2 from my DiSEqC 1.1 is to the ku and port 4 is to the ka output.

Well ..
So far this lnb has not given any improvement in Ka ...though it is difficult to draw any real conclusion yet since it is currently occupying the previous Ku slot which is not at the focus ..but indeed offest by about 3 degrees ..
A quick scan shows quite a few no-locked signals and levels very similar if not a fraction lower than the XMW ...

I'm going to upload a scan with the new lnb 3 degrees off focus (upper scan) ...and also the same scan with the XMW which is at focus .. (lower scan)

I will of course try to get the new lnb at the focus which may well make the difference ...but so far the XMW has the edge.
I shall also be trying a cap removal at some point to see if I can get back the missing 0.5db accross the board..before I move it to the focus..

Age old story Chris ..you want everything at the focus but that isn't possible ..
It's one of the reasons I got this lnb ..so It least get KA D and Ku at the focus ...thus all the other lnbs can shuffle a little closer to the sweet spot ..
Not given up yet as the 0.5db loss could easily be accounted for by being off focus ..
If I get gains of roughly the same as the XMW I will be happy on account I would also get a Ku lnb at the focus ..
plus I get KaD V..

Looks to be a chip at the bottom ?
or some sort of integrated or encapsulated probe assembly ....plus 4 protrusions into the feed about half way down...?

fwiw 21538 H previously below 10db is now 10.7db ..ie on a par with the XMW ...having returned it to its offset 3deg posn ...without cap and some clingfilm to cover..

So like previous inverto caps we are being robbed of approx 0.5db

Does sliding the LNB for best focus make any difference? There was a definite improvement for me sliding it forward on the TD88.

That's why mine is in prime focus now :-) in ku all channels, I had before are all still there, with a little less ber, but the signal level is a little lower. So if it was 70% with ber and 50% with no ber.

Then I will take that as OK :-)

So far for a combo unit I think it's well worth the money. :-)

If it was a cheaper LNB, I'd have had it opened up before now...

Well ..for good or ill ..I've epoxied a thin sheet of celluloid ....from a blister pack over the feed ..
will trim tomorrow when its cured ..
just like the hughes feeds ..
