Only one way to find out ;)
If it was a cheaper LNB, I'd have had it opened up before now...:D
Maybe if they come down in price ...
then just maybe ...
lol

Ok ..the new lnb is now at focus ...with the transparent feed cover ..
(gotta hope it's watertight)
previously (last night which was dry and clear ) 21539H was below 10db lnb 3 degrees off focus and with original cap...
10.7 db with clear cap (cling film) but still focus..
Now at 11.2db with lnb at focus ...clear cover fitted ...and thick cloud cover ...wet dish surface ...and light drizzle ..

One thing I have noticed so far is on 5E Mbc-tv in Ka, my tbs 6983 & tm5302 both give me watchable pictures, but my dr hd d15 is just a mass of pixelation :-(

fwiw Chris I dont think the tuner in the D15 is as good as the TM or indeed an F15 nor a TBS card..
I could be wrong of course..but imo the TBS card and F15 are much on a par for gain..

Looks like I might need some new boxes.

hi chris1979 I would recommend the technomate tm5402 m3 as I think these have a sensitive tuner in them !!

or if you know anyone locally that you could borrow one from to test it ???

hope this helps

No real conclusions as yet ..on account it would be unfair to compare atm ...
Not stopped raining all day ...and although only a light sticky drizzle this means neither the dish nor the feed have been h2o free as yet..
What I have noticed though fwiw ..is the inverto lnb does appear to have problems locking low SRs (which the majority of channels are) when those same signals are borderline on the F15...
currently lost LC2 on 7E ...along with a few channels on 16E ...but again ..this could be due to weather..
No misting up as yet behind the recently fitted clear feed protector plate ...which is a good sign.
So ..maybe sealed it ok..
No probs locking and holding the Muvi Mux on 7E along with TPA and along with TV2S
sig levels are as follows..
F15
TPA = 12.1db
Muvi mux = 10.4db
TV2S = 12.5db

My system has _always_ been pushed to the limit in KaD ...and this is going to be true also with the new lnb ..
Conclusions so far ..
This lnb may have fractionally more gain than the XMW ...but the XMW has the edge for locking low SR fringe signals in the rain.
..but then of course we are comparing DRO with PLL ...so I guess this is the reason ..
A damned good buy nonetheless ..and a nice addition to the armoury..plus a helluva lot cheaper.
;)

7E LC2.png Well ...this is odd ..
the rain has stopped and things have dried up a little ...but I still can't get LC2 @7E ..
there should be enough signal ...and the TBS card is showing a lock ...but a blank carrier ?
The F15 is pulsing over 10db but no lock there ..in fact ...not even showing a locked signal ...unlike the TBS card .
So ..is LC2 actually still there ??
Can someone check for me ...or is this a problem with the lnb..

Hi Vipersan, may be you can solve the problem by trying to lock the signal with CrazyScan again and again: I think the BER values are high because of Pilot switching off (the LNB is ok).

So definately something the Inverto cannot do ....score 1 for the XMW ..
after several attempts with the TBS card ..I finally got data ..and a locked picture at over 10db ...but the F15 ...can't lock it at all even though it claims to be receiving 10.6db ...
Confused ? ...I certainly am ..
The XMW doesn't have a problem with this when delivering signal to either the TBS _0r_ the F15
..or it least it didn't when it was still fitted the other day.

LC2 is coming through OK using a TD110 VS

Thanks Jamie ...
are you using an inverto there ...?
Can you lock it on a set top box ?
I notice you have a bit more signal than me ..about 1db more.
perhaps it is critical ?
As said in a previous post ...the XMW has the edge on borderline low SR signals..
Definately a mystery for me ..as I may end up returning to the XMW if it the invert doesn't DX well enough.
Perhaps PLL is important in this instance.
Finally ..roughly where in the UK R U ?

Yeah the inverto.
I had it at over 12 dB yesterday when the sun made a rare appearance... also caught the CCTV Africa feed at 7.5 dB.
I don't have a box to test it on, sadly.... only the TBS
I'm in the South East.

Thanks for that Jamie ...
something definately a bit odd with this one ..
signal reaching the F15 is now occasionally pulsing as high as 11.1 db ...and still it wont lock ..although already scanned in last week using the XMW ..
I can also lock in on the TBS using crazyscan more often than not..
Strange signal ..and definately lnb critical.. imo
I guess I'll keep checking this one to see if the sig strength varies over time ..
If it goes above 11.5db on the F15 and still doesn't lock ...then I guess it's head scratching time ..
lol

Hi Vipersan, the F15 "does not like" the low sr so much (may be the F16 works better) and there is a little difference of the frequency compared to the PLL LNB. May be the F15 will lock by changing the frequency 1 MHz. The Inverto LNB is ok.

I get wht you are saying Eric ...but I already have this channel scanned in on the F15 ..but that was done using the XMW ..
So since the signal levels are much the same I expected a lock with the Inverto ...
As you suggested I tried tweaking the frequency a little ..but still no lock..
Strange inded ..
I'll try with the Openbox SX6 tomorrow..
cheers

Sodit ...i'm impatient as hell ...
Tried the openbox SX6 ...and LC2 locked no problem ...so looks like the F15 needs a more stable signal at low SR ...which the XMW can provide ..but the DRO based Inverto cannot..
Nice to have a decent selection of boxes ..
I guess the Inverto can stay at the focus ...on Carl ..and the XMW can be moved to usals 1M I have spare...(Harry)
later guys..

More oddities ..this time at 16E ..
I finally locked TFM @21572H ...but not on the F15 ..and not on the TBS card ....using the new Inverto LNB ......but on the OpenboxSX6 ..
Been a while sinve Ive seen this mux ...
But It took several blindscan passes ..
The problem is in my opinion ..
These Ka D channels have so little frequency seperation that they often try to exist in the same space on set top boxes ....set top boxes dont like or allow channels which have the potential to overlap..
Sadly these channels do just that..
Also the blindscan method of the SX6 does not allow the steps to be modified so often will skip a channel in close proximity...
Doing multiple passes does help with this but doesn't fully fix the problem.
I guess this is also where the XMW scores over the inverto ...as using a PLL based lnb ...has it's advantages when it comes to isolating and seperating these channels which are very close to each other and with very low SRs.

In Crazyscan using this LNB, I find low SRs like LC2 invariably lock first time if you untick the blind scan option and enter the correct SR.

I haven't tried my F16 yet, I'll see how it copes with LC2.
