New Motor: Excessive Play

My Satellite Setup
1.2 alloy dish,alsat supreme,technomate 7102hd , acer , windows 7
My Location
norfolk
I have a brand new Alsat Supreme. There is so much play in the arm , the dish is flapping about like a tambourine in the Salvation Army. SystemSat , who supplied it , have ignored all my emails about it as have Alsat themselves. A paper seal stating warranty void if seal broken puts me off looking inside , not that I should have to!
 
I've moved your Post to create a new Topic as the one you tacked onto was a specific Thread about a pre-loved Actuator and it's partial refurbishment.
 
If you have paid with a credit card go for a chargeback. That should make them take notice.
 
Just curious are we talking about an actual 36v Actuator or a Dark Motor Supreme here

Its a Dark Motor Supreme. Not having much luck getting any professional help with this set up either! Having this wonky motor and being supplied
with the completely wrong bracket for the dish has meant loads of false starts & the odd bit of success , til now , i'm sick of the sight of it. Its been nigh on
impossible to get an installer to come out , despite me telling them i'm happy to pay the price. One guy set Hotbird up then said call me in the winter
if its no better?? Took £65 off me and was gone. Second one was meant to be here Saturday , but didn't show and ignored my calls & emails.Right
now I don't feel good about this "profession"! There don't seem to be many installers for European satellites in Norfolk.
 
Demand a replacement. My Dark motor is very good...with very little play in it.

No real point in getting an installer to set up a motor with too much backlash, as the performance will never be right, get a replacement and start again. Also, a 1.2m dish is in my opinion is going to exaggerate any backlash in a DiSEqC motor and bigger than I would be happy installing.

Well-the fun continues as the Smart Titanium Twin LNB , bought at the same time as the rest , 2 months ago , has now failed! Is this the sad state of electronics in the 21st century , or have I just
been unlucky? My life has been more directed towards radio and I have around 360 multiband sets.Many of these look , sound ,and behave much as they did 40 or 50 years ago. Actually , one of the
reasons I bought this sat.system was for the radio channels , but right now my Ministry of Sound internet radio is winning hands down.....if only they hadn't saddled it with the worst remote control
ever.
 
I think you've just been unlucky, although the Alsat motors are not favourites of mine. In the last 10 years, I've only had two personally installed motors with problems and probably only 3 LNBs and they were all MTIs.

From an installer point of view, personally I feel confident up to a 90cm dish on a DiSEqC motor for reliability, and whenever I see a 1.2m, for example a Gibertini, hanging on a DiSEqC motor it is obvious it is overloaded.
 
Few would disagree, so why do virtually all H-H Motor brands claim "up to 1.2m" without qualification: The informed know that Steel vs. Aluminium (ie Weight) is important, as is exposure to wind - but is this clear and obvious to a first time buyer.

I think not.

Having been obliged to move a TD110 from a wall mounted H-H motor to a sheltered Patio mounted H-H, the proof was most definitely in the pudding. And it wasn't a Sponge.

Like to thank you all first. From a beginners standpoint , the Alsat looked good and the box proclaims "up to 1.4 dish". However the spec. in the instruction book states 1.0 so I think Alsat
and SystemSat need to come clean about what they are actually selling! I've been in business all my life and always treated customers with courtesy. These 2 firms don't seem to care once
your money has been banked. Yesterday , an ex-BBC chum and I fitted an ancient , metal Marconi LNB just as an experiment and we were soon seeing those blue signal bars again.One thing
though-was it really giving us HD?
 
ask the TV :) If it says it's receiving 1080i then it's HD. LNBs are only marked with "HD" for marketing reasons, there is no technical difference.
 
I've used all sorts of cheap and mid range LNB's to receive HD transmissions, as HB says any marking of high definition is to sway Joe Public.

In regard to the dish size and motor. There's no way I'd ever consider using a 1.4M dish on a USALS motor. I've used a lightweight fiberglass 1.2M dish on a USALS motor for over three years now. The motor has shown no signs of wear, however it is in a very sheltered spot and I'd reconsider my set up if it were elsewhere on my property.
