New PVR Digital Satellite Receiver

Hey,

Hoping someone can help me choose what reciever to buy. I'm looking for the following functions:

1) satellite reciever and not just freeview
2) PVR (at least 60gb)
3) Record one channel whilst watching another (twin tuner)
4) live tv cache
5) embedded irdeto cam or ci slot
6) not buggy or recorded programs get deleted unexpectedly

I've seen the Humax PVR 8100 P with 80gb for 280 pounds - anyone know if that fulfuls my criterion and is any good?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Dreambox 7025? Don't what this is though so don't know if it does it "4) live tv cache".

Thanks for the reply.

I want it to continually record what I watch so that I can rewind live tv. Also would like it to record when i press pause.

A Dreambox with a hard-drive costs about 500 pounds. Is it really going to cost me that much to get the features I am looking for

The SatCatcher VOYAGER PLUS has most of what you want, not sure whether you can set it to cache the video permanently though, all of them will do it on demand. _http://www.sateuropa.co.uk/product_overview.asp?id=1436&catid=1&subcat=32

Thanks Rolf,

the link you posted doesn't work for me.

I've never even heard of that make. Anyone got one that can recommend it? It seems it will set me back about 200 pounds without the hard-drive and another hundred for the hard-drive. How hard is it to fit your own hard-drive?

Looks like the site is down, but you can find the spec at satcatcher they are just short of £300.

Don't know, as I've tried neither, but the Satcatcher units are nice and as far as I know patchable, I have used a Voyager II and III, both nice receivers. :)

Hey Rolf,

Finally purchased a satcatcher (it is actually labelled SAB Explorer). I am very happy with it but I can't seem to update the software. I have a 9pin cable male to female with an adaptor on one end to make it female to female. I understand that the wiring inside needs to be different than a normal cable. Can I use software to realign the pins or do I need to just buy a new cable. How do I know how it is wired up?

Most receivers need a Null-Modem serial cable for firmware upgrades, a standard serial cable won't work... :)

Can't help on that I'm afraid, as i only tested the receivers for reception performance and ease of use with a DiseqC motor.
