hi,
watching sat channels isnt enough .... I need the ability to record if I find
some interesting stuff.
the new sat box is of course hmti ... I found a hmti socket in my dvd recorder
tried it... but no luck
Its probably an ... out ... only socket ?

I dare say I will have to go onto amazon or temu and look for a ..... htmi to scart converter .... am I wrong ?

Yes the HDMI on the DVD recorder will be output only. HDMI-to-SCART converters exist but the quality tends to be poor. Most satellite receivers allow you to record to USB (e.g. pen drive or HDD) and preserve the image quality of the broadcast.

Use an external drive (ssd or usb)

Very few recorders have HDMI inputs, some Blu-Ray devices from the early 2010s

thats interesting.... maybe I could record direct into a Hard Drive ?

BUT Recrding with a dv d player I can pause recording then start up again
will I have that ability recording into a Hard Drive ?

Buy one from Amazon that is fulfilled/shipped by Amazon as it's easy to return if it doesn't work or meet expectations. Alternatively buy an HD receiver that has SCART out as well as HDMI.

it depends on your satellite receiver

I recorded something ages ago on one of my boxes that i subsequently wanted to edit out the adverts. I used an editing program on my computer, think it was Sony Vegas to do that. I then saved the edited file onto another memory stick.

FINALLY got the cable htmi into scart.... works ok very good quality pic now coming
from my dvd recorder into my tv ....

thinking though, this new sat box I bought for 150 ..... its only 4 inch by 3 inch .....
if it had been a box from the 90s there would be scart in there and lots of other options....
wonder if I ve rushed into it and could have bought something better .... too late now...

Ive got 2 scart sockets on my dvd recorder.... i thought one was out only ... ie to the tv
but tried putting my astra sat into it and bingo, it takes the signal

so Ive got the hotbird sat into one scart and the astra sat into the other
the htmi socket in the dvd recorder is sending a signal to my tv .... so things are ok

there are 2 htmi sockets

there are 2 htmi sockets on my tv but one of them is taken up with the signal from my
computor ..... maybe modern tvs have 3 or 4 hdmi sockets ?

I can live with things as they are now..... someone said sat tv is going out... but
seems to me there are a ton of channels out there still.... FTA .... for anyone to enjoy

I still use an aerial cable from my Sky+HD box to my DVD recorder (old school forever). Works fine and no intention of chucking it out (this is mainly for Add(ed) Channels not on my Sky epg though).

For my FTA box I have a Technomate 5402 and use RCA cables to the DVD recorder. This sat receiver also has USB stick recording (much easier) but getting recordings off the stick on to the pc proved challenging due to its format. Without wanting to drift off topic perhaps someone here has done this successfully with a Technomate/USB recording and can share how?
