My Satellite Setup
Standard sky setup in UK and Technomate TM 5400 CI+ USB Super with 1.2 dish, technomate 0.1lnb and diseq motor system in Spain
My Location
UK and Spain
Hi guys, my first post so hope I have it in the correct section.

I have installed a motorised system in my home in spain... Lat, 38.31/Lon, 01.05. The system consists of a Technomate TM 5400ci+ super with usb. A 1.2mtr dish on a Technomate diseqc motor and of course technomate 0.1 lnb.

Its all set up and tuned in perfectly and I can receive many channels from 30e to 30w, I haven't bothered outside of this range. All the sats show me plenty of FTA foreign channels but this is where my problem begins.

The FTA (Freesat) channels on astra 28e are scrambled (they show the $ after the name), the only free ones I can get are BBC News, BBC News 24 and Skynews.

All we'd like is to see some english progs with of course english audio, doesn't matter which satellite they are on. If anyone can give us an idea on how to get them. Do we need to add a card to the box? Indeed if we can get UK/USA programs broadcast on any of the other sats but with english audio on a subcarrier, that would also help.

Many thanks in advance.

Swing your dish around to 28E and theres dozens of free channels in English. The free channels are NOT scrambled in any way shape or form, although I do suspect your dish is on the small side for many of them

OK a lot of them are low budget religion / slapper on a sofa / shopping channels but theres a few decent ones on there.

If you want yank channels you will need to move to yankland :D

Thanks for the advice, but my original thread did say I can get them on 28e but for some reason they are showing as scrambled. I do know they should be free to air but they are not. The reason you mention could be the answer, the dish is too small at 1.2 mtr. I wanted confirmation or some way of checking that that was indeed the case before I buy a larger dish.

Is your frequency list up to date? There are lots of parameter changes / frequency moves at 28E. These are invisible to Sky or Freesat receivers but other types have to be rescanned regularly.

You would be able to pick up Badr4 (26E) from there and get the MBC channels, plus Dubai One, plus possibly badr6 and get Fox Movies. Check Lyngsat for transponder details.

Also check that your dish is large enough to receive Astra 2D at your location, and that you have the necessary transponders loaded into your receiver.

There is plenty of info around on "dish sizes in Spain needed for Astra2D reception" A 2.4m, by the looks of it, near Alicante.

Thanks I'll take a look at lyngsat. I used the pre-installed transponders list in the Technomate, along with doing a blind search for them. I know the BADR satellite is one I receive, I'll check out the channels on that one as well.
