when i open front of unit (fortec) all slots are empty is this the problem? if not what else do i need to get to fill holes? whats best and so on

Nope, nothing needed in there. Bit of a mystery. Full signal, scanning OK, but no channels found. Don't know where to go from here. They're usually so easy to set up.

If you rescan the same transponder then it won't show anything new, there is nothing viewable on that transponder, you need to look here http://www.lyngsat.com/28east.html and scan a transponder with FTA channels.

That's just the 'start' TP in the database for that bird Rolf. (same on mine). It scans starting from there.
If it wasn't for the fact it's OK with the digibox I would suggest the LNB's LO was adrift, as the sig. strength bar shows up OK on that empty frequency (but so does mine...)

Don't know if you can do a TP scan before 'setting up' a new satellite. I'll check on that.

not to sure dont mean to be stupid but i keep hearing transponder what is it.
i have a hole in the front what gos in there i will buy
what dish will i need to buy with motor or not if so what one

it did do a full scan last night on something then i played then it went horribly
wrong. cant get to the set at mo wife watching hell kitchens oh bugger not a good night

Try a Power Scan (blind scan).

A transponder is a frequency which contains a bouquet of channels, they are listed in the link I gave you above.

I wouldn't be concerned with the CI slots at the moment, you need to get to view waht is available free to air first.

Try choosing "ALL" not "FTA". I know, this will also scan the encrypted channels but it will at least tell us if the box is able to find something and save it.

back from a hard day configouring 2 new servers and door controllers (long story) so thought while mind is in think mode worked out where i went wrong so now working thanks for all your helps.

next questions

i have a old sky dish 80cm i think sitting on my mums wall i bought her sky and never took this down is possible to use the dish until my new ones turn up if so what else would i need. i know i keep harping on but what can i buy to put in the front so i have everything ready when i finally get instead having to wait failing all this i will go back to my little shack in the woods and live like a hermit

A little more information on what your ultimate setup is going to be would help. Two dishes? One fixed to wall? What size are they? Motorised?
If you can't wait until your stuff arrives, why not use the existing fixings or obtain similar wall mountings for your new location.
