Hi all.
I have a KVH R4 dome/dish on my barge in France. It has not been in use for 4 years, due mostly to the tree cover in summer!, I have been on to KVH and they sent me some tech lines to reprogram the dish, as it was just searching all the time. That's now fixed and I get all the crap channels and no BBC etc. My receiver is a Fortec Star Passion, bought about 2007/8 and never updated.
My questions are;-
Does the dish need adjusting? I tried the LNB and lost all channels, so I guess it's pretty close.
Does the Fortec Star need the channel list updating, for all the satellite changes made over the years?
HELP please, appreciated. Ta
 
Welcome to the forum.

What size dish is it and which areas are you using the dish in? A lot has changed over the last few years and the UK beams are a bit tighter than before.
 
timo... I think it's about 40cm wide and 20ish high, it's in a dome, so it's from memory!! We're in Tarn et Garonne, SW France. Yes...I realize a lot has changed, but surely a motorized dish with the appropriate software can still get UK TV?
 
Recently, due to trees, I resorted to using a normal static 85cm manual dish, which only collects BBC etc. if I park my van along the rear of the dish! So I know reception is sketchy, at best.
 
The KVH dish is way too small nowadays. The BBC, ITV, etc channels are broadcast on satellite beams which more precisely target the UK so, the further away you are, the larger the dish needs to be. As you have found an 85cm dish will work (although it seems only just) and that, or larger, will needed the further south and east you go.

And welcome to he forum from me as well. I'm currently in France and down in the Vaucluse my 85cm dish is approaching the smallest you can get away with. In rain the channels disappear so I intend, at some point, to go up to a 1m dish.

I agree with a static dish I can get BBC etc with 85cm. My dome has a 50cmx30cm rectangular dish and I'd hoped to get BBC etc as it points so accurately.
Is my old Fortec Star, with DiSEqC control of the dish, out of date? I have a reasonably newish Technomate which I will try.
 
Old receiver should be ok.

Dish is far too small, so no point in trying the Technomate receiver just yet.
