Hello All,

Firstly, I did try to look for something similar to my query in the vast forums but couldn't find it. Hopefully someone will be able to help?

I recently purchased an LG 37LF7700 television, which has HD Freesat built in. I currently subscribe to Virgin, and want to now bin this. The wife, however, loves the ease of recording shows, and being able to pause and rewind live Television.

Is there a device on the market which basically acts as a Sky + or V + box without the channels, enabling me to utilise the TV as a Freesat receiver?

Thank you for your time in reading. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated!

It could be done but it has major limitations. You could use an external DVD recorder but you would be limited in the length of time that a DVD could hold (2 hours at best quality, up to 8 hours at VHS quality). You realise that you couldn't then watch anything else on the TV?

Sony (and possibly others) offer a Freeview+ hard disc recorder which will accept inputs from external devices - which is what the TV is. This would record for longer but you'd still not be able to watch anything else whilst recording off the Freesat tuner in the TV.

All these would be standard definition, BTW, HD recordings are probably not do-able.

Frankly, it's probably best to forget about the Freesar tuner in the TV and buy a dedicated Freesat+ box. You can get them for about £200 or less. Then you could watch one programme whilst recording another.

Have you got your free Humax Foxsat HD receiver yet from LG? If not more details here _http://www.joinfreesat.co.uk/index.php/lg-offering-freesat-receivers-for-iplayer

I got mine without any problems.

When you get that you could flog it and put the cash towards a Freesat + box as suggested by PaulR in his last paragraph.
