New User - Technomate 5400 CI+

(Apologies if this is wrong forum area - I can't find anything specific to Technomate receivers)

I am in Reading, Berkshire. I had a pro install of some 2nd hand kit. I have

Technomate 5400 CI+ USB connected to a 1.1m motorised dish

I had it installed so my Czech in-laws could watch some telly while they visited for a fortnight. Now they have gone home and I want to explore what the equipment can do.

The installer set the dish to 23.5 astra 1a/3d and was okay (lost some signal quality at night but I am told that is expected for that satellite).

I thought I had followed him okay and yesterday I managed to change the satelitte to 28.2 to see UK freesat channels, but now I can't get the receiver to look at any other satellites.

I can change the satellite in 'Satellite Setup' menu and then I go to 'Motorized Setting' menu. I think I then have to select 'Scan' but it shows message "Channels List Full". When I then select 'Exit' to return to tv it is always moving the dish back to 28.2

This bit confuses me as it is not a new satellite I am using - I just want to tell the dish which satellite to look at and then watch the channels we did before.

Do I need to delete stored channels? Does the box not remember that I have been on other satellites and already scanned channels?

Hi

To get the dish to move to a different satellite, you should follow a much simpler procedure. Just to the right of the centre OK button should be a button that says SAT; if you press this, a list of available satellites will show up, you then scroll to the one you want and press OK.*

Beyond that, I think you will also need at some point to learn to decongest the channel list.

*EDIT PS It might also be useful for you long term to find out which system/protocol the motor uses to send the dish to different satellites i.e. whether USALS or Diseqc 1.2; but we can get to that later.

Thanks. That was easy Can't see it in the manual though!

I think I'd like to 'streamline' the receiver. It is second hand so has lots of stuff on there I probably don't need to worru about.

I've read a lot about patching and firmware and now need to sift through all the various threads to get an idea of what I need to do next.

Dont bother patching - that aspect of the hobby is long gone, there very little open on patches these days. Just enjoy your fta channels

To 'streamline' the receiver, one quick way is to delete encrypted channels. Possibly the best way is to follow this procedure:

- Choose and go to a particular satellite (I suggest to start with 1w as there is less chance of accidentally deleting something worthwhile)
- Press following buttons: Menu-Edit Channels-Delete Channels
-THEN press the BLUE button (for CAS at the top of the TV screen)
- Then scroll down the list on the left of the screen (ignoring 'Free' and 'FTA+SCR); perhaps choose 'Nagravision'
- Then press the 'Info' button to delete all the channels encrypted with that system (e.g. Nagravision) on the particular satellite.

With regard to patching, I think you should still do it for whatever it is worth --- there are one or two things here and there that you may be interested in and which are available with the patch. Also, I have seen it suggested that the Multicrypt function of the receiver's CAM is activated by patching (don't know how true).
