[h=6]If anyone can help, I have a sky dish and box that we no longer subscribe to. I've had a guy come out today and moved my dish to point to the Astra 1 satellite as we want to pick up German tv. He said all we need to do is pick up any old cheap freesat box to plug in and we'll be off and running. Can anyone confirm if that is indeed the case or if we need a certain type of freesat box. Any help will be appreciated.[/h]

That's right. Plenty of German channels with a basic digital receiver

Hello kp1
welcome to the forum
No you do not necessarily want a freesat box you need any FTA receiver as you want German channels off 19.2 East, you have to be careful with terminology Freesat is a specific service from 28.2 East

Indeed - Freesat is a subset of Free to Air to make reception of UK Channels idiot-proof and to include a 7 day EPG and logical (??) Channel numbering.

A generic DVB S (S2, if you want HD) Receiver is what you need.

Widely available from Forum Advertisers and all usual retail sources.

Many thanks for your helpful responses. Just saved me buying the wrong thing! Have now found an FTA box from Maplin that my husband can pick up at lunchtime :)
