Newbie needs motorised dish help

12 gig ram
1 gig Radeon 4800 graphics card
Epson stylus dx9400 wireless printer
My Location
West coast Scotland
Technomate 5400
1 metre dish
TM2300 motor
My position
Latitude: 55.4264°
Longitude: -5.6084°

I tried to set the dish up using the info on this and other forums and the instructions I received, using Thor 0.8W

No matter what i did with the dish we could not get above 20 percent signal on the receiver software, however I later found I could manage to get 19.2 E (therefore ruling out cable/lnb/receiver problems I would think)making it seem it was not lined up properly with the arc.

I purchased a meter and hired the cherry picker again (as you can see this is getting expensive now, and no-one installs them here).
We have adjusted and fine tuned the dish until the meter is vibrating..ok, not quite but you get the idea.
Absolutely nothing at the receiver now.

Any help would be appreciated, getting the cherry picker back Saturday and feel I am wasting all my cash here.

Could I possibly have lined it up to wrong satellite thinking it was Thor? if so how do i fix this? Dish even looks to be pointing exactly as it should according to dishpointer.com

Are you sure your using a live transponder on 1w to line the dish up if your on one out of your reach you'll get diddly, if you have a pre loaded channel list use BBC world if not the transponder should be 11324H 24500
 
Hi,

Try using 5°W as your due south satellite. It's closer to your co-ordinates and sends out a massive signal.
 
  • Calibrate motor by sending to zero/reference using the receiver > Installation > Motorised Setting > Motor control.
  • Set motor inclination to 55.5° or the relevant elevation setting on the reverse on the motor bracket.
  • Centre dish on motor shaft and tighten.
  • Place dish and motor onto pole and point to a rough South direction.
  • Input coordinates into USALs software.
  • Drive/motorise to 5°W, (check you have an active transponder using the link below).
  • Start with the dish EL slightly facing up. Swing the dish & motor as one around the mast and adjust the dish EL accordingly.
  • Once happy tighten motor to mast and dish EL.

All sorted now thanks. Could not get it to set up on 1w or 5w. Set it on 19.2 E then moved it round on the motor to check was getting the rest. No idea how/why, but can get 1w and 5w now.
 
That's the great thing about USALS : Not strictly necessary to use South Satellite as fixing any single point on the arc should suffice ............... but only if the mount is truly plumb and everything is mechanically assembled correctly!
