Newbie polarity problem

Hello,

I have a single LNB, split in 2 with a splitter, 1 feed going to my living room to the kitchen/dining. My wife is German, so we use the Lidl decoders to get fee german digital channels (RTL etc from Astra 19 East). I set up the split before Christmas. The cable going to the the living room is also running through a diplexer. Took me a while to figure things out, but I can use the two decoders together, but only see Horz channels on one decoder and vertical on the other.

Is there a way around this.

Yes.

Bin the splitter and fit a twin (or more) output LNB.

Thanks rai uno, I have a twin LNB. Just out of interest, are splitters a waste of time? Why? I'm just curious.

Yup Rai is correct - an lnb cable with a splitter in it will never work properly. Fit a new twin or quad output lnb and run an independant cable to the second receiver.
 
Satellite transmissions use one of 4 bands

horizontal low band
vertical low band
horizontal high band
vertical high band

the H/V switching is done with a 13/18V voltage change, and the hi/lo band switching is done with a 22khz tone which is on/off.

Therefore if one of the receivers switches to a channel which has the band where the 18V is on, and the tone is on, then whatever the other receiver does, it cant switch to any channel on any band apart from the same as the first receiver.

It all get VERY complicated VERY quickly.

With the quad lnb, the boxes have completely independent inputs.

The LNB requires Band and Polarity switching signals from a Receiver.

If two active receivers are connected to the same feed, then conflict occurs as only one Receiver can seize control.

Polarity is switched by altering the LNB voltage from 13 to 18Volts and Band switching is 22KHz tone driven.

So, if one Box is trying to see Verticals and the other Horizontals, which Box wins?
 
Anyway, as you already have a Twin Output LNB, where did the perceived need for a Splitter come from?

At the end of the day, if you require unhindered simultaneous operation of xy Boxes, you need xy independent feeds.

Thanks again rai. The twin Lnb was being kept as a spare and I had a splitter. many thanks, I've learned a lot in the last few minutes.
