Hi there all!
I have just joined the forum as I have started fiddling around with my Dreambox DM800 HD again and was hoping to bring it up to date. I must have had it since 2010 and have not done much with it since then. All is working fine but I get the feeling I am not using to full potential.
What I know is I have Enigma2 and GP2 with an image from 12.24.2009.

What I would like to know is the following:
Is it worth updating with a more modern image?
If so where would I get the image and how to install (over network) without losing everything?
What are the best skins to use? and again where to get and how to install?
Which are most important addons and how to install again?
Which apps are best for watching on a tablet - I used to have a good working one but now?

Any tips or comments would be useful, and thanks in advance.

Hi there, welcome to the forum!

Its always worth updating your receiver especially when the image is a few years old. However, if it does what you want then theres no need to update!

If you do decide to update get a copy of the free dreamboxedit software, and back up all your channel lists etc first.

Should things go wrong it will also make it much faster to redo you favourites / bouquets & any other channel lists you may have constructed.

Skins can be normally be downloaded from the image servers - they are very much a matter of personal taste so theres no point recommending anything Most of them give you a preview as to what they look like. And if you dont like it you just try another one.

Add ons - again a matter of taste personal preference & requirements.

Remember that many updates are for clones so be careful

Have you considered buying a new model by another maker?
I used to have the first Dreambox model on the market (SD).
Recording was quite a pain with pixelization, using IDE HDD.
I bought a VU+ model last year and I am quite happy with it. The specifications are much better and the support is fantastic.
