My Satellite Setup

Warm greetings.
I have just joined this forum as I am thinking of getting the HD DM800.
The more I read, on here, the more off-putting it is.
Is it really as mind boggling as it sounds?
Do you have to connect the box to the internet?
The terms you are using are foreign to me, and I suspect you people are very smart cookies.
At the moment I have a Sky box - the basic one that connects to the 'Big' TV,
and also also sends the input up into the loft to feed 5 TV's.

What I would like is to replace the Sky box, but get Sky HD& also Freesat HD, as well as channeling the Digital TV signal (Winter Hill) around the house.
I prepared to get a Satellite expert to set up and install, but worry whether I can navigate all the problems, downloads etc.
I love the AV world, and gadgits generally, but wonder whether I am out of my depth with the Dreambox?

Hi Henry, welcome to the Forum.

I'm sure you wouldn't have too much of a problem once you get your Dreambox. A Linux receiver may seem intimidating at first, but plenty of reading up on the Forum should get you wised up soon enough. We're a friendly lot on here, and help is always on hand - you only need to ask!

If you have a quad LNB fitted to the dish, two cables will go to the Sky HD box, and an extra cable can be run to your other box (I assume this will be the intended Dreambox 800, rather than the Freesat HD box you mention).

As to connecting it all up to your existing system, it depends what facilities your TV has by way of AV inputs; if you have a couple of HDMI inputs, these can be used for the Sky box and Dreambox. Or you will have to use any spare Scart input for the Dreambox.

Might be awkward to working them into your existing coaxial feed to the loft, as the Dreambox doesn't have an RF modulator. I suppose you could connect the Scart output of the Dreambox to your Sky box.
 
why not start with a dm 500 and FTA? learn the box, ins and outs. if you break it, its not so expensive to buy a new.

I was hoping to replace the Sky box with the Dreambox, and to get all the satellite channels through that.
Will that not work?
