DVB-S not S2.

Even on my cruddy old SD card via rf from my generic HD receiver the picture quality is excellent.

I have been watching quite a bit of NHK World HD, and it's got to be one of the best quality HD channels on any of the sats. There seems to be a lot of HD content too rather than upscaled SD. If only the BBC were as up to date....

Now Im back off holiday I'll have to think about investing in all in one HD / SD linux box. Its a pita switching backwards & forwards between boxes to have a look.

Yes, of course. You're on the button as usual. That '2' slipped in unintentionally :-DOH2

NHK HD has now launched onto the Freesat & Sky epg's:

Freesat - epg 209 (replacing the SD on HD boxes version)
Sky - 518 with the SD version moving from 516 to 507

I can *just about* stream it across my lan - the 7020 really doesnt like the high data rate and is struggling badly to keep up - its running at about 2fps

:-rofl2.

Hmm.

Just selected 209 and it's 576i ??

I'll wait until tomorrow to check again as I'm running the Foxsat HDR Beta Firmware which Auto-updates (allegedly) at 03.00 instead of doing all that unpleasant "prompt" stuff.

Edit: Definitely awaiting my overnight tune ...... got it ok in non-Freesat mode.

I'll survive.

Sorted as expected.

Foxsat HDRs with the Beta Firmware update overnight following the Tuesday changes, so effectively they are applied a day late.

Minor issue. At least it stops SWMBO getting twitchy when she turns to on for the 6pm BBC News and ends up wading through nag screens.

Even just streaming across my lan using vlc the HD picture is noticably crisper than the SD pic.

Yes, the quality is superb.

Not bad Editorially, either. Started dipping in during the recent "events" and have carried on ever since.

NHK is great - some of the documentaries are brilliant. Gardens of Kyoto is one series worth looking out for, and At home with Venetia as well. This latter one is an English woman's life living in Japan since the 1960's.

During the early spring they have pictures from the cherry blossom orchards :)

I have to agree the HD quality is some of the best I've seen. It may appear a little 'muted' (i.e. not as colourful) compared to others but I think it enhances, rather than detracts from the content.

Must catch Gardens of Kyoto. Been to Kyoto a couple of times in the 90's, will bring back a few memories. Hope they do the temples there too.
