Nikkai 5.8 GhZ video sender - help!

Hi, I bought a nikkai 5.8 ghz video sender yeserday which claimed to be as easy as plug and play. users on any different sites claimed the same. i've tied it out but to no avail. so i've even tried bringing second tv into room with first tv and the sky box.
It's a big lounge so i put second tv at other end.
Plugged transmitter into scart socket on sky box (tried both sockets even the one being used for 1st tv).
Plugged receivers into second tvs scart.
They're on the same channel but nothig whatsoever is happening.
Checked basic things like power, cables in properly etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
 
Maybe they work with specific SCART setup only? For example, in my receiver, I can setup scart output to work as s-video, rgb or component signal source, so maybe you have configured your output as RGB, but this transmitter works only with component?
 
That would be my first thought as well - mind you the VCR socket only outputs composite. Does the sound come through?

On the second TV have you changed the channel so that it's accepting the input from the receiver? Look for something like AV or Input in the channel selection. Sometimes remotes have a separate input selection button with a logo that looks like a television screen (an oblong with rounded corners) with a large arrow going into it.
 
thanks for the thoughts guys. really appreciate it. I've tried all the different inputs on the second tv. It's the only scart socket on second tv and i've tried av and scart - the rest are for hdmi, etc. I've tried using the sky remoteagainst the receiver and it does change the channel on the sky box in the other room so obviously the signal is getting through. just no sound or image! I know it's probably something reallly simple but can't figure it!! Thanks so much for your suggestions thus far guys
 
when i turn on sky on my main tv it shows up as AV1 (RGB). does this matter?
 
It just means that the TV output on your $ly box is ouputing an RGB signal to the TV. This gives a better quality signal to the TV than composite although it might not get transmitted on the wireless sender.

It's beginning to look like the wireless sender (or its wireless receiver) might be faulty. Have you tried the receiver in your main TV instead of the second TV? I also take it that sound isn't getting through by itself - if it does this is a valuable clue.
 
Some televisions (Mitsubishi springs to mind) do not have a setting on their AV input for composite connection.

Have you checked all the pins on the SCART leads, just in case the important ones have been pushed into the housing ?

Unfortuately i'm still not closer to solving the problem.
I've tried the receiver on four different TVs (2 sony, 1 walker and a matsui). there's no pick up of picture or sound. i've tried them in the same room as the transmitter in case the walls are too thick. absolutely nothing! I give up
 
Does the Scart connector/adapter have a switch on it ?
 
Have you tried it on another source - something like an old video player would be ideal.

Having just had the same issue with this unit I went looking for a solution and found this thread. I managed to solve the problem once I realised the scart to 3 RCA cables were labelled, one for the receiver and one for the transmitter. As soon as I swapped them around I had excellent sound and picture on the second TV. Probably not the (schoolboy) error the OP had with his unit but I thought it might help someone!

That would ensure that it is only a composite video signal going to the sender. The phonos are usually coloured red and white (or black) for the audio and yellow for the video.

The OP's original problem was that there was no sound or vision and so this pointed elsewhere. Shame it never got sorted.
 
Re my post at #11 above. Seems Maplin have altered the layout of their website. The FAQ that I originally referred to can be found in the list of FAQs here. Unfortunately, the order of the FAQs change each time you access the web page so I can't now quote a number. For convenience, the relevant FAQ is as follow:

A) The most common mistake made is that the connection plugs are designed specifically for the transmitter and receiver (and are labelled as such). Many users plug these into the wrong unit which results in no picture or sound.

As a Newbie, can I say thank you to the person who sugggested reversing the cables. I have had six frustrating hours of head scratching (I am not a teckie!) and frustarting. I wish I had got to this site first!

Happy Christmas to you as well - I'm sure it will be with your problem sorted.

Rereading the above posts it does seem that the OP may have made the same mistake as only the remote control signals were getting through. As these are "caught" by a separate "eye" that's entirely possible.
 
Hi, don't know if this thread can be picked up again. One of earlier posts (6 i think) asked whether sound was getting through as this would be a good clue. I am trying to connect a Nikkai 5.8 video sender to another TV from my sky HD box. Both sender and receiver only have the one scart socket and neither have settings to change. When the receiving tv is on the av channel it gets the sound from the other main TV but no picture. I've checked the scart leads are the right way round and all parts are plugged in properly.

Any suggestions gratefully received.
 
Which AV socket on the HD box? I'm not familiar with it and am assuming that there are two, marked TV and VCR. You should use the VCR; if the TV socket is used and set to output RGB, rather than compposite, this could cause the problem.
 
There is only one scart socket on this sky box (model name on back is Amstrad drx890). It's beginning to look like this won't work. There is a section labelled AV output that has the 3 colour coded phono plugs. So it probably needs a scart to phono adaptor, though the only adaptors I can see have the male scart connection not female.
 
If there's only one output then it will be for the TV. If so, there's a chance that it will have an option for RGB output, which is great for TVs but NOT for video senders.

I'm guessing here a bit but if you press the services button on the remote and look for video options (this used to 1 on the Digiboxes), there might be an option between RGB and composite output. You need composite output for the video sender to work. Save your changes and see if that works.

The AV ouput would probably work but needs an adaptor so try the above first.
