Hi guys.
Having recently purchased a diablo cam 2.3 and cas 3 programmer ive been unlocking many channels on Thor and astra 19e. As I understand there is some channels on the above satellites that the cam unlocks. My problem is not a cam issue but dish alignment. I get good signals on Thor, Astra 19e, Hotbird, eurobird. 98% ish. When my dish moves to the above sats then i get no signal. Im fearful of realigning the dish to obtain signals on these sats and then losing the others. I was always of the opinion to align your dish with thor when initially setting up the dish in which i did and thus obtaining 98%. There is nothing obstructing the dish and there is a nice clear view in my garden for the dish to point. Me thinks im going to have to start from scratch??. your kind advices would be appreciated.)(-red:-DOH!

How big is your Dish?

For even a few of the Verticals on Nilesat you'll need 1.1m or above and for Horizontals at least 1.8m.

16E should give good results with anything over 80cm (There are a few strong TPs you can get with less, but not many).

8W, however, rocks!

It may well be that you have aligned your Dish on a strong Thor TP like the BBC World one, and so have no great difficulty with strong Sats like 13E and 19E, but the micro-alignment might be inadequate for weaker Satellites and you'd be advised to select a weakish TP on Thor (initially) to optimise further. But I don't understand why you have problems with 8W.

PS: I'm assuming you are in the UK ..................... ??

Can you express that differently ... and ..what are all the satellites you get on your motorised dish from east to west?

Thankyou for your reply.
I am based in the UK, Maidstone Kent. I only have a 80cm dish. Perhaps thats why the difficulty. Maybe I will have to get a larger one or be happy with what I got. Its funny when you buy the sat setup they never tell you this at the time. "oh yes you will get all satellites" Hmm. Would tweeking the LNB skew help?, as its easy to put back to its original position. Is there lots of good channels on 8w??, Im really after Digitalalb package???

. Ye sorry, the sats i dont get are, atbird, nilesat, and 16e Eutel). Im getting, Sirius, BAdr, All Astras , Hotbird, Eurobird, Thor, and i think the other eutel sat i can get.
Thankyou

Well if you really are getting BADR with an 80cm, there isn't much wrong with your alignment!

Normally for BADR 90cm is the minimum required in order to have a sufficiently narrow beamwidth to avoid swamping from 28E (or bits of 23.5E).

I'm beginning to sense "finger Trouble" over 8W, as you should have no difficulty whatsoever with it.

No chance of Nilesat, though.

Are you using USALS for Motor Control or are you using DiSEqC 1.2/2.2?

Im using DiSEqC 1.2/, will have to double check on the Badr as im sure im getting some channels on that. Cant check at mo as my son is watching Lightning maqueen for the hundreth time, Does Digitalalb transmit through any other sat??
Thankyou

digitalb is only on 16e

i think you might be best to upgrade the dish to 1metre

also with your current dish make sure the dish is centered correctly on the motor pole

We can and do routinely get MBC on 26e on 80s in mid UK... has to be a good make &/or well tweaked and rainfade limits it .... Dubai One etc... will keep going a good while in quite bad weather on 80s. 1m+'s still the best advice though.

Many thanks for all your replies. Looks like i might have to get a bigger dish. Incidently, what is the largest size you can go without planning permission??

1 metre ............ as long as there aren't other restrictions eg Conservation Area.

Your first post talked about the Diablo cam opening channels on 7°w.

It is many months since any channels on 7°w were opened by the Diablo cam.

There is detailed info on where to put 'em and where not to, take a look at the planning laws thread elsewhere on this forum.. well worth using their recommendations and the do's & don'ts- mostly good advice anyway... it's better for all of us if more installations are within the regs and kept looking good as it'll end up coming back on all of us if too many go up outside the regs.

Just mentioning the diablo cam on 7 west, from other sources i was advised it opened show cinema/movies etc. Cant get that sat so i cant really confirm it

Your information was correct some time ago but all of 7°w is down on Diablo now, and has been down for many months.

It is possible for people located in the south of the UK to receive some 7°w channels and it is important that we do not give misleading information about these channels.

I'm not too far from you and getting the MBC Tps on 7W 24/7 unless it rains. Ive never had a dropout on 16E.

BTW Canvey, it is a good idea to have your correct location in your profile, especially when asking about reception issues.
