No C band scalar ring

Hi, just curious, ive noticed a few dishes outside Europe with no scalar ring on C band, why is this please, signal is that strong its not needed ?.

youv'e probably hit the nail on the head there Martin, a scalar ring plays an important role for cancelling out noise that lurk around the edges of dishes which can have a big impact on S/N ratio's . If your trying to squeeze weak signals out on small dishes, 2-3mtr or less , then you don't want these destructive influences playing havoc with your already very weak signal. Something like a 3mtr mesh Martin would be a good start :D .... see what i did there ?? lol.
As an experiment try this, it's been documented elsewhere so not new but you don,t hear it said much ..... take your scalar off and take readings using a good signal to find the best focal point and then note the S/N figure. Re-fit the scalar and do forward & backward positions of it to find the best S/N figure using the same signal as before, which should have improved by the way, without any detriment to the overall performance. Some patience with extra very fine tweeking should pay off. Apart from that matey, i haven't got a clue :D

Thanks John:), i have plans for making a see through scalar, from my tests putting the scalar over the KU feed drops the signal by 3% so it must be doing similar in C band, i am sure i can reduce this with a clear one. another thing to sort out in the future :).
