Nokia C2 - transfer of photos

What cable to I need to move these to the PC ?

Nothing came in the box so I assume I may have to visit the O2 shop for one

Just get yourself a micro SD reader. Data cables are a couple of quid on ebay, but you'll probably need the phone drivers.

So the photos are stored in the card and not the phone.

Probably on the phone. But if you have a micro SD card fitted there should be option somewhere (look for file management or similar) to move/copy them to the card.
