I have Nokia 9600 with dvb2000 firmware and a Freecam2 ver 0.17. I upgraded (bought) to freecam2 2 month ago. Problems occured when I was first time trying to insert Plainkeys via remote Control.

At first I was trying inserting keys in some previous versions 18xx of DVB2000 firmware. I can enter just first 4 digits of decimal KeyCode and then it takes me back to irdeto Freecam 2 main menu. I put the latest version of DVB2000 (dvb2000beta05) from http://www.dominance.net/overflow/download.html. After that I was able to enter all (2*3+8*3) digits of the Plainkey codes correctly. Even that I can't see the last 12 digits when I put the code in (only first 18 digits are displayed) I can finish entering digits, but after entering last (30) digit it takes me back to irdeto Freecam 2 main menu - and nothing happens. I can't see any new keys entered when I List plainkeys. And appropriate chanell stays locked (even if I wait more than 15 min..).

If I understand well entering new key in Freecam2 menu should be confirmed with "yes"? What I am doing wrong? Anybody with similar configuration has this problem? Is this problem in freecam2 SW, compatibility with Uli's DVB2000 firmware or Nokia9600 HW?

Any suggestions, please

Thanx in advance for help

I have not tried the entering of plainkeys since v0.15 but at least then it required (if memory serves) a confirmation after entering the full plainkey (on my Echostar ad3000).

But it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that that has changed in v0.16 or 0.17.

In any event, after entering plainkeys or making any changes to the parameters of the FreeCAM you should always reinitialise it (by, eg, switching the receiver to standby and then on again).
Thereafter there should be no need to wait for the picture to appear. FreeCAM is not auto-updating. The keys you enter are plainkeys, not plainmaster or hexmaster keys. Plainkeys are either instantly ok or else will remain forever invalid (if the provider had changed the keys or you entered invalid ones).

Perhaps you can say which key(s) are not being picked up. Maybe there's a simple explanation (such as a provider that has switched to Irdeto-II).
And can you verify that ANY of the keys in the FreeCAM are working?

Another ide is to try deleting a few keys and then adding new ones. Perhaps the key space is simply full.

Oh, and I assume you are aware that for the CAM's internal keys to be used at all you need to switch the EMU (emulator) parameter to "ON". Otherwise it's just passing control to any inserted card.

Thanx for your quick answer 2old.

Today I checked:

1. EMU parameter = ON
2. Keys in the FreeCAM ver.017 are working - I can watch complete PWorld, PW Cinedom, ORF, Canal Holland from the beginning (for more than 1 month until today).
3. Until the beginning of September Nova also worked, then it became locked (PK changed I belive?) and that's the reason I found out my problem when I tried entering new PK for Nova via remote.
4. I deleted 1 old key (for Nova) as you sugested (this menu options works fine). I checked with "List Plainkeys" menu options and that key was really deleted.
5. Through menu options "Entering new PK" I am trying to enter any new PK for Nova (or old deleted one, or new PKs for STREAM or any other 30 digits number) but after 30 digit it still imidiatelly takes me back to main menu without any confirmation. "List Plainkeys" menu options shows that nothing was entered and that there is still one PK less in key space as it was at the beginning.

Any idea?

Then I suggest that you update the CAM's keys by editing the bin file on your PC and reflashing the CAM with the new file.
There are several editors around to do that, or you can simply use a hex-editor and locate the key-block by searching in hex for a known plainkey that you can see in the on-screen list.

Thanx for your help 2old.

I forgot about entering PK via remote. I updated the CAM's keys by editing the bin file on my PC as you suggested (no problem :-) ) with newest PK I found on the net in last 4 days. In updated ver017 bin file there still remain a lot of free key space to add more new PK :-).

But I needed 6 days :( to found notebook whitch allow me reflashing the CAM with my updated file. I tried with 6 different models (with win 95, 98, 98SE, and winME too) and finally I got green OK screen on 7th old 486 Olivetti with win95! With other 6 I got red NOK screen on 1st bar, 2nd or 2 bars before the end.

I checked reflashed CAM in receiver:
1. all new PKs are in
2. Nova works OK at first
3. Stream remain locked (do they change PK daily or what ?)

But I established the update procedure :-). So thnx again. Zoran

Hi there, You've picked up a very old thread here. Most encryptions have been changed over the last couple of years and are now much more secure. Very few channels can be opened with keys these days
