noob question on cams

1m ? dish pole mounted in back garden, bigsat hh motor mount, 0.2db universal single lnb, technomate 1000c1, viaccess 2.5 cam, 1yr art subs card

i have just purchased a new motorised system which includes a 1m dish, 0.2db lnb, technomate 1000ci and a bigsat diseqc hh mount.
i want to buy an art sports card so i can get art sports on my system and what im wondering is DO I NEED A CAM before i can use the card?
i have heard that art sports uses viaccess encryption so do i need a viaccess cam and are they all the same or are there different ones. i would greatly appreciate any help which anyone can give me here as i really havent got a clue at the moment. the main reason for purchasing the system was to receive art sports although i cant wait to mess about and see what else i can do but i just need to know if a cam is needed or not and if so which before i pay for a card which i cannot use. thanks:confused:
 
yes you will need a cam as that reciever has no card reader in it

you could buy a viaccess cam but a dragon cam would be better buy as it can support all the different encryption types and as well as loading of firmware to get hacked channels
 
Viaccess cams are about £50-60. If you go for the Dragon Cam at £90 you will also need a way of programming your loader carder. A programmer to do this will cost from £50-£70.
Therefore DRAGON CAM option totals £150

OR

Viaccess Cam £50-60
 
cheers for the info guys. i would have settled for the viaccess cam but now im kinda startin to wonder about this dragon cam as im thinking whilst its dearer short term if i buy the viaccess cam then decide i want to try to get some channels using a different encryption i will need another cam for that so in the long run dragon cam may work out cheaper. just curious before i decide WHAT is a programmer? ie. software or hardware and is it complicated to do? and if i have the dragon cam does it need reprogrammed each time i want to view a channel with a different encryption to the one which you are currently watching or can it store the programming for the different encryption types at once?

thanks again for your help i cant wait to get my garden finished off so i can get to installing my system as its been sitting here looking at me since last friday:D
