Hi guys,

Tonight I was tidying up the cabinet that houses my Openbox receiver, PS4 and router. I noticed when I lifted up the receiver to clear any dust underneath, it caused ever so slight picture/sound breakup for about a second, it was fine once I put the box down again. I've checked the LNB input and its very firmly secured. It didn't appear to be the channel signal either as the SNR shows 80%. It did it a second time when I moved it slightly but this time only the audio stuttered for a second.

I know its most likely something minor but I would never have thought that moving the receiver could cause any interference like this.

Are you sure that the F-connectors on the rear panel are securely assembled and firmly plugged in? Otherwise, it could be an internal problem within the box, such as a loose or corroded connector (which might be solved simply by unplugging/re-plugging it, or a squirt of contact cleaner fluid).

My "bet" would something to do with the F-connectors, as they can easily partially unscrew from the cables without that being easily visible - so that would be my first port of call. Generally I try to fit the connector firmly to the cable and then wind self-amalgamating tape around any F-connector that I use because I have had that issue many times.

OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

It shouldn't, moving the receiver should not make the sound/picture jump or do funny things.

It could have something loose inside it, or a slightly corroded connection somewhere.

Try unplugging it from the wail and remove and reconnect all connections to the receiver, this may clear up the problem(s).

Or just tap on it and see if the problem reoccurs.

Thank you both for the replies.

I've attempted to replicate the issue once more by tapping on the cable/connector but it isn't happening this time. Maybe initially putting some gentle pressure on the cable and F-connector had tightened something. Perhaps its probably best if I stop fiddling and just leave the box itself alone! :D

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Your satellite system is just crying out for a liberal dose of iron filings, as I found at a client's house a few years back just after Christmas.

I once experienced something similar, due to my F Connector being a bit tight, so I forced it on, cutting most of the braid, which still worked perfectly, until I moved the receiver.
Once I tracked down the problem it was an easy fix.

Is it connected by HDMI? To me it sounds more like an HFMI connector problem - they are not the best AV connectors but still better than scart for connection.

Unfortunately, it will almost certainly happen again - possibly over Xmas! - if you don't find and fix the problem now whilst it's fresh in your mind:(. There have been a lot of simple tips given here, and I'm fairly sure you should be able to sort it for good within no more than an hour:).
