I got home today late and my neigbor was out resting his two dogs, i have never talked to him except saying hello.

Now i have lived here for two years and the dish has been up for the same time on my balcony.

So when i got home tonight i walked pass him and he said he wanted to ask me something.

My first thought "What do you want from me?" as we don't even know each others.

He started asking "Why do you have a satellite dish?" "Do you use it for some special puroposes as you are not obvious Arabic or from any foreign country where you need to watch their home channels"

No i said.

Then he went on and said he was curious and that all the rest of the hundreds of apartments in the area didn't have a dish and got their channels thru cable-tv.

No it's my hobby i said, i used to work with these things as broadcast engineer.

So you can watch TV for free he said? depends what you mean by free i said.

No, no, i was just curious why you had a dish installed.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------END

So what is his point? the dish has been up for two years and he asks me this now?

What is so curious about a dish that he needs to ask?

Cos not everyone actually know what they do if they're not 43, 60 or 80CM Mesh dishes (aka sky (both old and Digital) dishes)... :-rofl2

Loud? So it's not the gentle hum I imagine most motors or actuators to make then? :p

Next time i will say i am running a company that does financial trading and we need access to real-time stock listings thru satellite.

I am a joint-venture capitalist i will say.

Yeah, why don't you just take that dish down and watch cable? ;) All the channels any one could ever want are sure to have been hand picked by the cable company! ;) And cable is known for it's excellent picture quality - especially the off-air analogue signals from your local UHF transmitter! ;)

God only knows what my neighbours think of my dishes. I'm the only one in my immediate block with a dish, and in the whole block (and most of the immediate neighbourhood) the other dishes are Sky minidishes. Mine stands out at being 70cms and having two "things" on the end of it! Let alone two dishes peering out the windows!

There is a house near me though (that I go past every day and can see from my flat) that has what has to be a 1 to 1.3 metre motorised dish sticking out of it's roof. I really should go over and introduce myself! ;)

sell him some mature content:eek: That`s what he wants to know really. You watch, next time he talks to you he will ask what can you get! That always translates to "can you get mature content on that"

Maybe your neighbour was just curious (nosey means 'unduly' curious, hehe). whatever, take your pick.

Since he mentioned watching TV for free - maybe he's pissed with the staggering choice on cable (its 30 channels analogue where I live, yawn) or the inflated costs they usually charge (on top of a TV licence).

MAYBE he saw THIS site :) and is in the fledgling stages of getting into sat stuff.

Maybe his wife is a few channels short of a full package and their marriage needs some 'invigoration' [Read: SAT TV = mature content = FILLS LIFE WITH ENERGY]

I dunno, I am just making all this up as I go along.

i had a similar conversation with a neighbour over the road last year.... although he straight away suggested i was using it to watch mature content... as he had been talking about it with some lads at work lol

i told him i used it for live football.... dont think he believed me so i invited him over and showed him (was a saturday) he was impressed :)

he now sits here and watches footy with me now lol

Some neighbourly love in Rochdale - you don't see that everyday.

Shame neighbours, in general, weren't as - well - neighbourly.

Saying that, this summer the house (that's about 100+ apartments over 5,000 sqm) had an all-in BBQ in the (hinterhof) open space right outside my apartement.

That was cool while it lasted. Even published some pics on a special website.

we are back to normal now, thankfully.
