The sad news about Carrie broke while I was driving down yesterday and then this morning the announcement about her mother was just awful.

'notable' appears to blur talent and talentless. Famous for being famous is not something to be proud of.

It's all a big conspiracy:

He counted the number of pre-prepared BBC obituaries that ran across radio, TV and online from January until the end of March for the years 2012-16.

The BBC had pre-prepared obituaries ready to run, where they pre-warned?

I know they have the book with pre-prepared obituaries for the Royal Family (as do most, if not all commercial radio and TV stations) but I never thought they'd have a book on "notable people".

Are George Michael and David Bowie really gone or are they in hiding on Richard Bransons island with Elvis, Tupac and Michael Jackson for an evening with The Artist formally known as Prince?

I'm not sure that, if I was a Celeb, I'd be please that the BBC thought I was worthy of a pre-prepared obituary or if I'd be alarmed that they where planning (for) my death!

I'm just glad 2016 has gone before we loose anyone else

There was an article on a Radio 4 programme either last year or the year before that on exactly that subject. I can't recall it properly now but there certainly is a bank of obituaries prepared.

I was listening to BBC's Last Word on Friday (I tend to listen regularly to that programme, being morbidly inclined), and they did a 2016 recall of people lost during the year, with an interview with the BBC's Obituary editor.

But it's not the very recent one I was listening to. I was actually driving through the outskirts of Rouen at the time on my way south when I heard it. It must have been the one two years ago for the times to match up.

I think it is the same one as I heard. They talked about how they decided what to include in the obituary and what they would leave out. They also mentioned times when they messed up and how they got themselves out of it. Very interesting because they had to give enough details about the life without upsetting anyone, which was more difficult than it may sound.

The "More or Less" program on Radio 4 did a feature recently on the number of celebrities who died compared to other years.
