The only way an Enigma2 box will play 4:2:2 on the fly is hardware acceleration which means the codec has to be natively supported in the chipset! No STB at the moment has a CPU powerful enough to utilise software decoding like a PC! I hope that in the not so far future cpus are capable of this! We'll have to wait and see if they can transcode 4:2:2 that might be possible!

Yes sure ok.. I've got an Azbox ME though which does decode 4.2.2 and has enigma2 ...obviously the chipset allows this then on this box

Exactly, only SH4 chipsets (like Azbox) can play 4:2:2 via hardware at the moment on consumer STBs. To be fair, I never got why manufacturers such as Broadcom never implemented this codec on their chipsets. It's not like it's a CPU consuming codec...

So yet another new sat receiver which decodes and display 4k channels but what really also interests me is that this one also decodes multi streams so would like to know which ones it will decode compared to the Openbox SX6 which is limted to only decoding a very few of them...
you could just use a tbs usb tuner connected to your enigma 2 receiver, best of both. sensitive tuner and mis :)

Hmm really, but I couldn't connect my 5925 to the Azbox ME I guess ? It's the only enigma 2 box I have atm

True, but very problematic on E2 atm especially with newer kernels. TBS is completely indifferent to providing better open source drivers to fix various issues such as the I/O errors, the signal missing STB freezing, the faster zapping, the CPU consumption and more. When the SDG team first implemented MIS support for TBS5925 on OSmini last February, while on kernel 4.2 and 4.3 the problems were not (so) severe (see my videos from back then). With every kernel update things get worse and worse, there's no way you will not see spinners and delay. Even skins cannot load fast while zapping. STBs with older kernels seem to benefit more, but generally the whole experience is far from seamless right now and it's very disappointing how the whole thing turned out. Luckily internal MIS decoding will solve all these issues for good, and it's a good thing the code was at least patched on the E2 core, just to make support for newer internal tuners a lot easier.
I heard that the Skystar USB HD card (the one without CI) is now the best solution for USB MIS, the driver support is far superior and the function is way lighter. The problem is that these cards are nowhere to be found right now... :(

Some tv's can seemingly handle 4:2:2. I spotted it in the specs somewhere for our new LG telly.

According to Octagon developers, they released a new driver which now fixes Gold and Combo PLS modes. Damn, I'm really perched to try this STB now, but something tells me I have to wait...

I'll wait until it has blind scan (next month apparently) and decodes all multi streams out there

My Octagon has arrived and I am learning how to use an E2 receiver for the first time. Then I will have to find out what it can do.

DVB S2X is working. I haven't a clue where to start with the Multistream yet. Watch this space.

The tuner is a little more sensitive than my Dr HD.

Where is the channel editor and sorter? That has always been a basic requirement for a satellite receiver.

Loads of settings to play around with.

Transponder scanning is a lot slower than I am used to.

I am keeping the old machine for moving the dish for now and blind scanning. I have the blind scan plug in installed but it is still being worked on at the moment.

I have upgraded the software to openatv 6.0 beta this evening. Upgrading the firmware is quick easy providing you follow the instructions exactly.

Back to the receiver for more play.....

Multistream now working. Not managed to work out how to import a satellites.xml successfully yet. This would automate scanning Multistream.

satellites.xml can be found in /etc/tuxbox folder, and can be replaced by creating your own here: satellites.xml creator or here: http://satellites-xml.eu/
thanks.I did try placing the satellites.xml with the one I wanted with copy and paste after renaming the old one in the location you mentioned. The new file is recognisable as it has KA listings as well. Is there another step before the receiver picks up the file? I tried a cold reboot, but no joy.

You can create your satellites.xml on the VIX generator which now supports MIS (there are a few missing), or use my satellites.xml from 10/2 which has everything.
MEGA
Make sure to place this xml file on etc/enigma2 not etc/tuxbox, so that it won't be replaced. After you reboot E2 you can scan automatically. Note that MIS transmissions usually require signals above 11db for reception, except a few.

satellites.xml creator is my site.

It is updated for multistream.

If you are using an OE-Alliance image the embeded satellites.xml file will also contain multistream data from the next build.

File tested and working on SF4008.
